A few days ago I read chapter 7 which dealt with Abby and Fred I believe on Christmas Eve. This chapter is about EJ and his beginnings with alcoholism.
I'm going to go back and read the prior chapters because I found the 2 chapters piquing my interest. That way everything will come together in my mind.

This chapter develops the reader's understanding of E.J.'s past and the reasons for his alchholism. His parents and their dysfunctional marriage are not fully developed. However, it is difficult to judge from one chapter.
The reader is engaged by the main character and hopes for a better future.
