Great Christmas story, well written! Ten dollars was a good deal of money in 1955. I'm glad you were able to spend some of it on a special gift for your mother, and I'm guessing she treasured it. Thanks for sharing. Have a blessed Christmas. Carol

6 stars on a very over-cast, rather dreary day in my neck of the woods!!!! Thanks very much. I appreciate more that you know. ann

It's been dreary here also. I've been wanting to watch meteor showers with my grandson, but it's been cloudy and rainy. Glad the stars cheered you!

This is a well-written story that kept this reader looking forward to the next word. The atmosphere you created pulled me right into the story. I wish there were more to the tale. This would make a great book. Something to consider. I believe it would be a winner. Best wishes in winning the contest.

Boy, do I remember 1955 and being a little kid. I like your story and it brought back many memories of my time on Christmas during that year.
Thank you for posting and giving me memories of my own.

This really is a lovely story for the season. I was on that "little ride" with you just now. A sweet reminiscence sans seatbelts. I don't miss lay-aways, open car windows and walk-in banks, but I truly enjpyed the memories.

I don't miss them either!!!! But, they are a bit of fun when dragged out as memories to share. Thanks so much for the beautiful stars and the wonderful review. ann

A touch of cash can be so much more than it seems. More in meaning than the cash value would indicate. Also, your story demonstrates at all levels how much more giving can be valued than receiving is. The true value of receiving is that it allows us to give. Kate xx

This was so sweet. I like your narrative voice. The descriptions of the driving were hysterical. Like how yall didn't recover from the turn until your dad stopped. You have a natural and relaxed voice. I really enjoyed reading this. Gretchen

Your story is a heart-touching one. I truly enjoyed reading it, but the end brought tears to my eyes. It makes me so grateful for the wonderful mother who raised all twelve of us kids and was a grandmother to many of our children. It must have been sad for you. Your story is beautifully written. I wish you luck in the contest.

Thanks for the good luck wishes and it is a nice day to be thankful for our mothers and grandmothers. I believe you and I were both blessed with good growing up years and people who loved us. Happy Thanksgiving. ann

A well-written, touching story. Losing our Mom leaves a void that can never be filled. It is a blessing that you remember that last Christmas in such detail.
It's odd that my Dad was born on October 26, and I remember our last Christmas together. He passed away just before his 96th birthday.
Good work,
irish

What an incredible story, Ann. Heart-warming and so fitting as a perfect Christmas story. Your life seems full of touching events, and I'm so happy I've had a chance to read about them. Enjoyable, my friend.

Thank you. I have had an interesting and, I think, a bit unusual life; My parents, particularly my father having been born in 1895 always seemed from a different place in time as compared to my friends' parents. Or maybe I just think about all of the special times and forget the rest!

6 stars from John Ciarmello is an honor I do not take lightly. Thank you very much.

What a beautiful story and tribute to your parents and family. Your unselfish gesture of love in buying such a beautiful gift for your Mom. I can't imagine how hard it must have been to lose her at such a young age. Thank you for sharing.
