This is a beautiful poem. I loved the way that you wrote it with the rhyme. The words seemed to flow perfectly. I too, feel that my faith, friends, and family mean everything to me. I am also blessed in so many ways, and this helped me to identify with your poem even more. Thank you for sharing.

Jacquelyn, I thank you so very much for your kind words. I appreciate meeting a fellow Christian, as it's one of my favorite things I love most here is the ongoing fellowship that is so special about so many people. Thank you again for such a lovely review.

Hello, Debi,
You are a powerhouse of optimism and courage!
I applaud your positivity.
I can relate - to an extent - having undergone two total knee replacements. But today, as I was surrounded by my children, their spouses, and their grandchildren, climbing Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes in northern Michigan, all of the pain and rehabilitation was worth it.
Keep smiling, Debi!
Keep shining...

Oh Diana I see that big smile on your face and I can see you can be a crazy and wild grandma too! Wow, I am hoping to be that good next Summer when we take our entire family to a resort for a week. I haven't walked in years. They did put two new knees in too, besides connecting rods and other stuff in my legs, connected to somewhere in the hip area to make them straight and strong enough to walk again. so I am super excited! Thank you for passing your big smile and sweet comments on to me. You made my night my lovely friend!

Beautiful picture of you and your grandchildren and very picturesque words to describe who you are. I pray that you will reach your goal to walk by Christmas. With God, all things are possible.

We are bionic leg sisters! I actually had a plate, screws, and some wires put in my leg in July. Within the past month, I've had to learn to walk again. It's hard. I'm with you.

So my bionic sister are you ready for us to go save the world yet? You have to give me a little more time as mine were attached at my hip area down with rods and hardware to strengthen and straighten them as well. My Lupus had deteriorated my spine and all the bones and joints that have all been replaced and just lots of hardware in my spine. First I had to go through a stem cell replacement at our MN Mayo Clinic which I had to stay there for a couple months after, but glad it is over now. But as far as yours and mine this Summer, we were really close as far as dates, where my first one was in July and the second was early Sept and a month in the hospital for each. I am so happy to be home but have therapy here everyday. In fact I just got home on Friday. So I too am very excited, yet neither one of them feel very good to put pressure on yet. So my house is set up with bars and everything they need to get me ready. Then on New Years my husband has a surprise for me. He didn't tell me but I saw the receipt of his reservation. He is taking me out for a couple days, staying in a resort that has a ballroom, and they will clear the dance floor for us and play our song. You may have heard of it, it is called, 'Can I have this dance for the rest of my life.' That has been our song since the early 80s. So on that night we will dance one more time. I am such a snoop. I was too excited that I couldn't help myself. If you have never heard of the song, google it once. It is by Anne Murray and it is so beautiful. Well especially for me. : )
Sorry for being so long winded, but I just felt so close to you after you told me of your procedure that wasn't the same as mine, but still you had to learn to walk again. I wish you the best Sweetie, and so happy to hear you are doing well. Thanks for the lovely review!

That sounds like a lovely surprise!! I haven't heard that song before, but I will take a listen. I love music from the 80s. I hope you continue to recover and get stronger every day :)

Hey Debi,
This is a good way to live. It is healthy to keep a little of the child in us and let it out once in a while. So did you have knee replacements done? Is that why you say you have new legs.
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Joan

Hi Joan. Thanks so much for the kind review and comments. I truly appreciate it my friend.
About ten years ago my Lupus had gotten really bad and was on destroying spree. It hurt various organs and then started deteriorating joints, bones and muscles. It took three spine surgeries to rebuild and need another one. Then it got my shoulders and arms which took two surgeries and was also destroying my ability to walk. My muscle and tissue, bones and joints so it got everything but my hips. Thank goodness we have the top Drs and hospitals here at the Mayo Clinic. They were able to replace Bone Morrow, which was a long stay in Rochester. But damage that had already been done it couldn't help. So this Summer they put material and rods attached at hips down to my feet, and new ankles, new knees that were bone on bone. My legs were shaped like a large X. They had to straighten and strengthen them too. It has been a long process. They thought I would never walk again, but these drs from Mayo and St John Hopkins did it. Now I have teams of HHC and PT who work with me daily to learn how to walk again. This Summer was just the last part to complete my legs. And yes, put new knees in too. So that's why I just say new legs. I also ended up with lung cancer and am now at a stage four kidney damage. So that's why I try to enjoy every minute of everyday and doing it all narcotic free.

Wow, you've gone through a lot. It seems you are emotionally strong to last through all this without getting depressed. No narcotics either. You have a whole new body. I see why your doctors say you are bionic. Glad you will be walking again.
    Kee writing and stay healthy

I had to go narcotic free because I used to be hooked so bad on painkillers that my doctors pushed on me .
it scared me that I may want them back again.
I was on OxyContin, Percocet and fentanyl patch for twenty years as the Lupus was crippling me. Finally I was on the highest dose possible flour times a day for the oxy and Percocet. My brain told. Me that I was on way to self destruction. Oh Joan, I was so terribly depressed when I decided to ween off and I am now 3 years narcotic free, I couldn't make good decisions and it was hurting my family. So I just decided that I needed my higher power power back in my life and now I am thankful for every tiny good thing that comes out of life. And like my mom always told me to keep the good and throw out the rest. Thats what I did with the drugs and the depression. And you and all my friends here have so much to do with that too. You are like Angels who fill in that void that is missing in all of our lives. She also taught me to count my blessings and name them one by one. One is called Joan. Amazing how that really does work. Thanks for caring and listening!

That excitability and positivity is absolutely fundamental and I hope you never lose it. This bounces along with your signature joyful rhythm and had me smiling all the way.

Mike, I could kiss you for being so sweet.. Thank you for bing one of the kindest guys on FS.Actually I thought about writing a poem that made a poll of the opinion of our peers, who they think is the nicest, toughest reviewer, etc.. I know you would be the first choice of many as the nicest guy.
But in the meantime I do thank you so much for such a kind review and comments. You are a one of a kind my dear friend!

This sounds like a pretty accurate description of the Debi I've come to know and love as revealed through her writing and reviews here on FanStory. Your radiant smile reveals a lot too, and makes me think your husband sees your enthusiasm and delight much as I do. We both love that about you! ;p This is a good poem with some very creative rhymes and a lot of joy and gratitude, which makes it well worth reading and I hope it does well in this contest. I loved it! MM

Thanks so much Adonna for the very lovely review and comments regarding my poem. I feel like maybe I overshare, but I am so darn thankful for how things are going in my life, I just can't help but want to share the joy with this wonderful bunch of friends here. Please Adonna, tell me if I ever overdo it, because I really do tend to love to talk too much. Like I am doing right now. So thanks again my very lovely friend, and thanks for your caring thoughtfulness that is always so appreciated.
