Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

-You wrote a very good poem, jaybird, and now I understand why you
don't see some of your family.
-We live on a small street that's part of a bigger lake community in New Jersey, and we have about 4 snowbirds who have made Florida their permanent residence, but still have a home here.
-It's not for me because I like all of the seasons, and am not a fan of hot and humid weather, or hurricanes!!
-I like the image, "where the storm clouds range."
-I like your concluding verse and agree about being where we should be!!!
-Well done. Have a great day and rest of your week.

I really enjoyed reading this poem. I have only been there once but I loved it. Such a great place to visit or love apart from the Hurricanes of course. Best wishes. Jen.

If where you are is in Kentuck' then all is well. Been there, done that. Recruited b-ballers a long time ago. Met a great guard from Boyd country, Dave Wooten. Lasted only a year. Got homesick for his girl. I understood.

Jay, Florida attracts many snowbirds who then turn locals. I guess, one trades one heart attack with another. I dreaded snow, but I can't say I'm delighted with the hurricane season. But my daughter and her children love Florida. So your poem conveys the true feelings of Florida's new generation

Yes, I get it. The hurricane hurt many people so it is a topic of concern about moving to Florida. I'm not sure about this. There are some things to look at in this post.

notes:

I'm now {to} old to make that change

-I'm now too old to make that change

But, now the youngsters can't {await},

-But, now the youngsters can't wait,

and [I] feel this is where I should be.

-,and I feel this is where I should be.

But, now the youngsters can't await,
to go and live in this great state.
Many of my kin reside there,
enjoying sun and ocean air.

- you don't tell us what this great state is?

I agree with you, JayBird: Florida is a fine place to visit, but I have no desire to live there!
A few edits to consider:
1. Florida has great sights to see,
recorded in their (its) history.
2. I'm now to (too) old to make that change
3. I'm happy here, (;) this is my life.

Thank you for sharing!

You know, it's funny - reading this poem is like following my footsteps. I lived in the state of New York for over 30 years, then in 2016 I moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, from there to Las Vegas, Nevada and a year and a half ago I moved... guess where? To Florida! Yes, but I think I'll stick around for a long while because the climate suits me very well. I never had such wonderful winters. Last New Year's eve we had 85 degrees! Yes, Florida is the state that attracts young and old, you brought it out very well. I also understand why you would not want to move. Moving is a huge and stressful thing; plus in a new state you have to start all over again.

Very much enjoyed the wisdom and the spunk of your poem, keep writing!

So true, Jay. Living in Hurricane Alley with the heat coming from the Atlantic to only increase with climate change means these hurricanes will gain in magnitude in the coming years.

I fear living close to the ocean, as much as we love it, is a not a wise choice now.

I am encouraged to know the weather where you live suits you because that is a most important consideration.

Always wonderful to hear from you, my friend.

Gloria

So, true, JB1, I'm not a big fan of the warmer climates and you're right the youngsters should keep the tourism flowing. Wonderfully written! Best, JohnC

I feel like Ian has influenced many people in so many ways. I'm sure older people who aren't Florida snowbirds are confident in their choice not to move there whenever there is a tragedy like Ian. The thing is, hurricanes are going to continue to get worse probably. You probably did the right thing staying where you are!
