This story, "Silk Stitches," touches the reader touches so many themes of childhood, growing up, and human continuity moves forward so engagingingly that it left me with a warm feeling that went from torso to noodle. Tales of innocence recovered are so invigorating!

"Being in college doesn't mean you can't call us now and then(,)" Stitches heard Tommy's mother say.
What a wonderful, heart-warming story! Congratulations.

Wow. What an impact!
You masterfully turned an actual family tradition into a great story.
I think most children have, and take comfort from, a small stuffed animal of some kind. It is their playtime companion, their advisor when they are uncertain, their protector, in bed with them, when the lights are turned out and the bedroom door closed.
They are righteously family heirlooms that should be passed on to the next generation.
Great work in a different genre!

John,
This is a well written heart-warming story that focuses on the ability of children to experience magic in the reassurance of the familiar. There is only one question I have. The following two paragraphs seem to make an odd transition. If they were moving, wouldn't all Tommy's stuff travel in a van to a new garage? It reads as though it went directly from the bedroom to the garage.
"I can't believe we're moving after all these years," Stitches heard Tommy's mother say. Deep unfamiliar voices answered her politely as Tommy's bed was pulled away from the wall.
A strange man collected Stitches and carried him to the garage, where he placed him slumped atop a box packed with Tommy's other belongings.

Hi, Susan, I had that transition written another way, but it seemed to read a bit complicated for the age group I was writing for. So, I left him in the garage with a time passage until Tommy returned. Thanks for noticing and I may work on that a bit more.

Understood.

Wow! What an amazing and heart felt story. I could see Stitches while I read, so magical. You write with such ease and passion for the story.
Makes me wish I had been able to know my grandmothers. One I never met and my parents moved me away before I had the chance to get to know her.

Thank you for the great review, kind words, and generous stars. That's a shame you didn't know your grandmothers.

Hello John,
What a delightful story. It's somewhat sad the way we put away childhood things, but it's so necessary I suppose. Frankly, I wish I had all the comic books I had growing up. I might be a rich man. Well done.
Have a blessed evening.

From the mind and feelings of stitches, this is a wonderful read, we do neglect/outgrow our toys as the years' pass but the love of and the need for their comfort is often passed on/down along with the memories, very well written a read with memories****kahpot
