Another fine write, Gypsy, and you are to be applauded for tying to help others to understand the disease. And you're giving them encouragement there are brighter days are ahead.

Hi Gypsy Queen,
I could never tire of reading, listening, or knowing the story of you. How you kept this, your story condensed and concise, took a measured restraint.

I would try to rework the passage with your aunts. I know what you mean, but for someone just passing by who reads this passage, it may stall their flow. Me, I would omit... My aunts moved to America when they got married.
Just an example as only you know the sequence...
Luckily, I had aunts who had moved to the United States when married, who offered to take me in and allow me to live with them in America, even though I didn't know them very well. I'd also elaborate on where your sister went to live and maybe the age difference to why she chose to stay in Spain?

You are a beautiful and brave woman who uses her pain and past as her strength. I am truly proud to call and be called friend by someone I respect the way I do you. Yes, life can be better when there is purpose and meaning... and yes, the people who love you would miss you if you were gone.

Living with your daughter, her husband and possibly not so little Atticus now, was the crack to allowed the light in. So glad it was!

All the very best in this contest.

En mi corazón siento la grieta donde tu luz ha brillado tan generosamente.
Amor, respeto, besitos y abrazos,
Hermosa Reina Gitana.

With our thoughts we create...
the light.

Kind regards,
James.

    Hola, Jaime, guapisimo <3

I don't want to sound like a broken record but I honestly look forward to your kind, helpful, and insightful reviews. Tu eres el mejor! Your exceptional six stars review mean a lot to me because you understand how I feel. We both had a hard life, but look at us! We made it, baby!

I really appreciate your grammatical help. Only one other reviewer helped me. I think most people were overwhelmed by the heavy content of my story and didn't want to tell me how to improve it. I embrace your help so I can make it better, I know there is room for improvement. I'm more comfortable with poetry. But I have gotten better thanks to the fanstory community. I will make the changes.

Un millon de abrazos, guapisimo, con much cariño,

    MariVal, Reina Gitana

It is brave to admit to having Any Mental Illness because there are stupid people. Despite the fact that people with AMI make up one in five of the US population. Prejudice and discrimination against those who face this challenge exist despite laws to protect them. I have witnessed it first hand.

Dang it, not a six left when I need one. From the master of the haiku comes a powerful, sad, and yet hopeful story of life. Thank you for sharing it. Good luck in the contest, but from I sit, you are already the winner. Exceptional writing. Terry.

Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us and the information for getting help. I've told you before, I have a daughter-in-law who is bi-polar. Her sister just moved in with their family. She has attempted suicide twice and is a manic depressive. I am very worried about this situation and am praying. I enjoyed reading and wish you luck with the contest.

-Thanks for sharing the picture, notes, and story, Gypsy.
-I appreciate your honesty in telling your story.
-The opening paragraph creates a pleasant mood,
as well as your description of your mother and aunt.
-The mood quickly changes as you describe what the nuns told you at school. What a frightening thing to do.
-I am sorry for the loss of your mother, and what you went through
after that. Didn't your sister that was also kicked out of the house go with your and your aunt to the States?
-You do a good job recounting your experiences after that, showing that
you can turn your life around. I am glad that your life changed and you have found a new purpose in life, and you are willing to share it with others who may need to hear this. You never know who you will help with your words and example.
-I like your quotes at the end, too.
-Good luck in the contest and have a good weekend!!

    Pam,

my sister didn't want to move to the united states, she wanted to stay in Spain. she had a hard time finding a place to stay but made it through somehow. My brother was 5 years old so my dad kept him until he turned 18 years-old, right on his birthday! I guess us girls threatened her more than my brother.

My brother and I are very close. I have gone to see him a few times and we stay in touch.

Thank you very much for the exceptional review, you are very kind.

What a pity I don't have a six for you! Your story is an amazing one, and you have written with honesty and insight. I wonder whether the difficult circumstances of your childhood triggered the bipolar. You have shared with courage and authenticity, and I found your story very moving. You seem to be in a good place at present, and may the little one continue to bring you much joy. Best wishes for the contest.
Wendy
Love the quotes too in the Author's Notes..

Hi Gypsy, behind every door there is a story. You have been through so much pain and loss, yet you bring sunshine and happiness to many people each and every day. I'm sorry that you loss your mother at 10 years old. No child should know that pain. Of note:

After a year she kicked my sister and me out of the house.
I was 15-years-old.

(Gypsy, this story is all too common. Growing up, I had friends that went through the same thing that you did, and their fathers sat by and said Nothing while these stepmothers threw the children out of the house. Obviously, these women are "mean girls." Once the wedding ring went on the finger, they took control (the men let them) and probably, eventually, bullied the men/husbands as well.)

Thank you for your author's notes and for sharing the quotes. Winnie the Pooh has amazing quotes. I'm happy that you live with your daughter and her husband. I'm sure that your grandchild loves you and that you are a great help to them.

Thank you for sharing your story. Today you wrote something brave. I wish I had a Sixer. Xo. Margaret ~ LateBloomer

p.s. I worked with a woman who was born in Spain. Her father had an expression ... if you were to hang your problems out on the clothes line, and your neighbor hung theirs too, you would gladly take your own problems back off the line ... just sharing. Since my co-worker told this to me, I often think of it. Have a great day. M

A very well crafted story told with authenticity of the author's voice drawn from recollection, self-reflection and a place of resiliency.

Thank you for writing and sharing an inside view with readers on your life, obstacles you faced with courage while overcoming many and succumbing to others. Your story inspires and awakens understanding amongst readers to the vital importance of child and adolescent health and well being.

Mental health conditions or disorders continue to rise in childhood and adolescence.

Many children have been estranged from their parents during the migration process, leading to a range of mental health issues, from depression to post-traumatic stress disorders.

I wrote a poem on child and adolescent mental health called: Lonliness is a Mind Exile. I would love if you found inspiration or let me know if and how you relate to this poem so I can keep sensitizing to these issues.

There are a list of resources and references also in my authors notes.

Thanks for sharing your incredible journey.

The six is for having the courage to write about this, in support of childhood mental health and well-being and your journey to survival.

Thanks for the sharing. To open oneself and tell strangers who we are deep inside is a difficult thing to do. This author opened up her heart to tell people her life's lessons. That is very precious.

Wish Gypsy well!
