You certainly look a lot like your mother. I thought that was you in the picture until I read your footnotes. I can see why this poem won the contest; it is lovely and nicely penned. Congratulations.

This poem, A Loving Lens, includes many examples of iconic photographs which do say a thousand words and stick in our minds. Tiananmen square, African starvation, poverty in America, are all cultural snapshots that remain frozen in time through timely capture on film. Terrific poem.

Beautiful entry for the If You Were An Artist... contest. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I love the picture and presentation.

Nice alliteration and word choices.

Wonderful imagery, easy to visualize.

Good luck in the contest, you have a great contender.

Like your poem as it expresses how you see an artist painting. The framing, background and landscape are part of the artist's touch. I love to watch an artist paint.

You describe photography so well that I was hoping to see an example or two. I don't think the graphic you used is a photo, but I have to believe you are capable of much more than that one even.

Very detailed description, though it does trail off into much less preferred areas. It seems this may be the mingling of two writings.

A well thought through composition, and beautifully expressed, as well as being thought provoking. I particularly like the last five lines. Best wishes for your entry in the contest.

Thank you very much for reading and reviewing. I'm glad it came across as well, particularly given someone mentioned the last lines seemed like they went with a different poem. I'm rather fond of them. I appreciate your time and best wishes, and I hope you have a wonderful day.

You have portrayed the art of photography so poetically! I like how you capture the desire to preserve "the expression of the human soul, all mingled as impressions on paper,...as a grain of sand in the hourglass of Time. And all of that is accomplished "with a simple click, a shudder of a shutter;" Hope this does well in the contest!

Thank you very much for reading and reviewing. Photography is one of those art forms I'm in awe of, even if I hate being photographed. I really appreciate you taking the time to read and I hope you have a wonderful day.

I love the way my mind ponders, not taking things at face value, why did God give us a mind? To ponder the possibility of His existence, and indeed to figure if this world is not a nasty figment of our imagination, but there really is a battle for the souls of men. Beautifully written, although I'm not sure why I reviews this great poem this, but I did, beautifully written, blessings Roy

Thank you very much for the compliment. If it sparked that kind of thought, there must be something good in it, right? I appreciate you giving it your time and I hope you have a wonderful day.

Dammit, I need a six bad! This free verse poem is so well stated. Free verse is my favorite poetry form. This is a superbly written free verse poem. The well-conceived layered lines continue to unfold like peeling an onion. There is so many great lines in this poem and then you had that one moment of internal rhyme/alliteration that's stellar~shudder of a shutter.

Now the font size could be a bit larger for my old eyes, but I managed. The visual I don't get, but the poem is strong enough to stand on its own. I hope this contest is not over because you got my vote. It's in 8 hours. Yipee

Thank you very much for reading it and reviewing! I really appreciate your kind words and your time. Still looking for the right image, since I am notoriously horrible at photography (which I suppose is the point). I?m glad I?m not the only one who loves free verse, too. I hope you have a wonderful day! The contest closes tonight, so I assume voting will be after that.
