You have no idea how much I envy your having THIS SCENE in your backyard. I can almost feel the rain dappling the plants and trees. I think these two lines alone capture the essence of your photo:
Unspoiled, the scene so tranquil amongst the deep
shadows cast deep into the hollow.

JLR...

Excellent work. Your theme is strong, clear, and well-developed. The flow is laser focused. The nourishing rhapsody of rain, the resplendent animal sanctuary, and the tranquil babbling brook to your title-worthy metaphor of pricelessness. Well done.

Better yet, your word choices are outstanding. You employ them to paint powerful and evocative pictures and use vivid images to extract the incomparable value that a thoughtful observation of the Eden just beyond your back door reveals. I marveled at the beauty and felt the sense of wonder and understood the value of your priceless jewel.

My favorite line is, "Were dreams of precious fine-cut emeralds brought to my doorstep..." This is the fulcrum on which your entire poem balances. This single transition is the tipping point that masterfully ties your premise of observation to a conclusion of commitment to valuing what you have.

Thank you for sharing this with us. Keep up the great work.

Blessings...

Curt

This is so beautifully worded, and the photo from your back door is spectacular. I enjoyed looking at this photo as I read. I wouldn't trade any of it. It is genuinely paradisaical. Best, JohnC

I thought this was really nice, classic romanticism. Lots of great posts on the site today. This was reminiscent of Coleridge in many ways, in the ode format, in the relaxed, easy conversational language, in the imagery, very sublime, very pastoral. To see a world in a grain of sand, kind of stuff. I liked the specifics of the observations of the animals and flora and fauna, the color and the philosophical shadings that added texture and perspective to the piece. Nice work. estory

This looks like a little piece of heaven truly. There is something so soothing about being next to nature. I especially like the trees and the birds that inhabit them. Thanks for sharing.

I've used up all my six stars this week, but you deserve them.
There are many things I like about the way you describe this beautiful space:
- the alliterations: sparkling, splashing among others
- the way you use words and some of those words themselves: the first sentence is a good example
- the personification when you write about humidity
- your obvious love of nature
All in all, the finished product is outstanding.
Thanks for sharing

You had me at "Oh, the rain,
rhapsodizing with the whisper of a breeze." I was compelled to read on! I connect wholly to your poem. I live in a national rainforest (Juneau, Alaska), and I feel that way about every tree I see. We have so many beautiful various varieties. I love walking trails and smelling and drinking in the beauty of the trees. The melodious sound of the trees as they clap their leaves. There is no price for nature. And I am rich indeed.

Michaela, thank you! I have been privileged years ago to travel twice a year throughout various cities, towns and villages of my work when I lived in Seattle. You do live at the crossroads of heaven and earth.

The words to this fine poem are as refreshing as a nice cool shower on a hot and muggy day. As I suffer through another unbearably hot day in the Southern California near desert. I am much in need of relief. My AC is on the fritz and repair is not in the foreseeable future. To say your poem was refreshing is not in any way hyperbolic, it really was.

Nomi., first my thank you and second;y,my sincere regrets about your AC as I know the southern California sun can make finding a cool place most challenging.

Thank you. The early mornings and the late evenings are great, as they offer some relief. As for the remedy to my problems, I am working on it.
