Truer words were never written!! For me, the killer was the day I was clicking through different offerings and landed on Say Yes to the Dress and heard this unbelievably spoiled bride whining about HAVING to two TWO dresses. As in, HOW could she POSSIBLY be expected to wear the same thing all daaaaaaay!! (At $6000/dress, she should be expecting to wear it every day for a freakin YEAR or more!!)
I mean, I realize that the Ozzie and Harriet, Leave It to Beaver and even The Brady Bunch were fantasy-based versions of real life, too, but this?? I wanted to reach right through my monitor and SHAKE that little spoiled creature!!!
So, yes; I agree one hundred percent: there is nothing to be achieved that's presented on tv shows like that except pure frustration!

I watch that show sometimes and shake my head in wonderment too. LOL (At $6000/dress, she should be expecting to wear it every day for a freakin YEAR or more!!)~ Now that's a great line! LOL Thanks for reading and rating my poem.

We have, by and large, entered into the twilight zone, if and when we turn the teevee on. It's called an idiot box for a reason I suppose therefore I propose we choose our programming carefully.

Thanks for reading and rating my entry. I am indeed mindful of what I watch.

This was succinct and very true! I love those last two lines especially, but the others are great as well. Thank you for sharing this poem, and best wishes to you.

This could be be a very good entry for the contest
but some lines are not seven syllables as thee prompts require.
Television land may be fake
Self-loathing it often make
**********************
For the images of success seen
Can seldom be achieved off screen.
Suggest:
Television may be fake
And self-loathing can it make
**********************
For images of success seen
Seldom are achieved off screen.
Good luck.

Thanks for making me recheck but using my Webster dictionary I cannot find the off-syllable count lines. The black dot in the dictionary shows syllable breaks.
My dictionary shows:
Line#1~ 3+1+1+1+1=7
Line#2~ 1+2+1+2+1=7
Line#3~ 1+1+1+1+2+1=7
Line #4~ 1+2+1+1+1+1=7
For the life of me I cannot find the off lines but thanks!

I count television as 4
and images as 3
and achieved as 2
but go with what you like.
Line two has correct syllables, but would need "makes"
Good luck.

Thank you, I see the light. Sometimes, I must be beat over my head with it. LOL

Indeed, TV-world will lie to us, but that's partly because we want it to. I don't wish to spend my relaxation time watching real life - I get way too much of that the rest of the time. Of course, the trick is to remember it all fantasy, including - perhaps especially - 'reality television'

Thanks for reading and rating my poem.

Hi poet, I get that. There's
been so much portrayal of
wealthy families/individuals
in dramas and sitcoms over
the years. I liked the old
sitcom, "Roseanne," about a
blue collar family. The majority of people struggle
financially, especially now.
My best wishes for the contest. Blessings to you. ~

This is good except every line in this poem is supposed to be seven syllables. In this poem every line except one has more than seven syllables. Keep up the great work writing poems.

I don't know who you are, but I will check out all the entries. If you are Brit the syllable count may be different because of how words are pronounced in American English.
