I love your family tale. Now if that was your parents taking you out, they would have said "too bad that's what you ordered." But not grandparents! I had one grandma that would have done anything for us, and usually did, and a second grandmother that was not a fun nor interesting person. So of course it was grandma one's house we spent the most time at. She would have done exactly what yours did just so you wouldn't cry. Your grandpa didn't care even if he was grumbling because if he did he would have said no. Nope he went right back because he didn't want to see you hurt. One of many great memories I'm sure you have. Good luck in the contest.

Kids . . . they are always a pain in the butt. Nothing ever suits them, and they always want what they don't have or what someone else has. But wouldn't it be a dull world without them. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

How darling are the two of you, and how wonderful you had grandparents like this! I lived with my paternal grandparents for three years. They were nice, and generous, however, too set with children being seen, not heard. A delightful read and memory.
