This is a beautifully written poem. Showing love with actions not words. My parents were like that also. They weren't the affectionate type back then. As the saying goes actions speak louder than words. My parents did a lot for me. I really enjoyed your poem about your dad.

This is a lovely tribute poem to your dad. Men of that generation were raised to commit to hard work in order to support their families. Expressing emotions were definitely not popular back then. Regards, Lilly

I can relate to your dad because mine was much the same. Family came first, always a hard worker. Little to say. The pride and love in his eyes told us what words couldn't not. Coming back from the war, he was a changed man, still my dad. K xx

I have a feeling you are a man who found the balance between showing love and speaking it. We all learn from you, Jay. Thank you for sharing your life and your heart with us.
Fave bit:
Speaking of love is kind and right-
But 'twill not light the darkest night.
Wow!!!
Blessings,
Deb

-Thanks for sharing the notes and poem about your dad, jaybird.
-It is interesting learning more about you.
-Going back in time, I think it was very common for parents to have the same qualities you describe here.
-They had to work hard, and it was a difficult time, and just making a living took a lot of hard work.
-Maybe they didn't have a lot left over for feelings and love,
and I agree that usually we knew that in their heart they cared.
-You do a good job showing how your dad cared, and
"He did not feel the need for words," but actions spoke louder.
-A good closing couplet.
-Thanks for sharing this.

Yes, some are like that which has great merit. Love can certainly be expressed by action rather than words. As usual you've written a poem that gives food for thought. Ulla:)))

Actions do speak louder than words. I believe that and will always believe that to be true. You can tell a lot about people by the things they do not the things they say.

You are so right. Actions really do speak louder than words. My father was not one to speak his love either, but he always worked hard, was a good provider. The couplet touched me deeply.

Hi Jay, he sounds like my father was...
the most important thing in my fathers life...
was his family...he was a roofer in Florida...
and from working in the heat of the days...his shin
was tough and darkened by the sun...he wasn't a big talker..
but when he spoke...you listened...I loved my dad as well...

your dad sounded like an amazing man...a wonderful love for his family...
I love your poem my sweet friend...and love your story told...very well written you...love Linda xxoo
