The part I like best is how you explain your mamma got to California.. You say in your notes that she was a one of a kind unique personality ..
I got a feeling that the apple didn't fall far from the tree in your case..you got your a vivid imagination from your mamma... that's what I like about your writing, you take the reader to some real strange,dark, unsettling places ...I find it very entertaining.

My mamma died in dec 2006 but she was just 71 then. She had me very late also.

Your mother sounds like she was a lovely soul. This is a beautiful way of honoring her. I would suggest editing to take away the error. First line of the last stanza! Great job and thank you for sharing!
