Funny! Yes, the rooster to the bird world is like the bag pipes to an orchestra. It's no wonder Lily flew out from underneath the covers. She's probably still hiding somewhere. It will take a lot of coaxing to get her out.

It didn't take Lily long to get her bravery back... she walked back into the room full of bravado again soon after, pretending she'd been joking about fleeing in fear.

That is some kitty you got there, Jenny. :) I sleep with my Yorkie, Penny, who lies between my wife and me. She prays with me every night. I kiss my wife and then her or the other way around. I scratch her head so she can fall asleep and scratch my wife as well. Only then can I sleep. :) This entry you entered is a very good one for the True Story Flash. Thank you for sharing.

Very funny! I suspected immediately that your companion was Lily, as my cat often lays "relaxed against me as we [slumber]," and the alarm clock set to different bird calls was a dead giveaway. Never once, though, did I suspect that she'd be roused by the crowing of a rooster (definitely not the first sound I think of when I think of bird calls). I love the image painted by "she erupted from under the bedcovers."

Thanks Helen - you know me (and Lily) so well. Most of the morning radio birdcalls are native birds so it is a nice way to get to recognise their different songs. The sudden rooster call was very unexpected and definitely alarming for both of us.

Lol. In Honolulu, someone rescued a rooster and fed him some years back and now there are so many roosters crowing in the middle of the concrete jungle. Chooks are hardy !

In my city the council just passed a by-law forbidding ownership of roosters... up to 5 hens allowed.

That makes sense - it can be very noisy! Lol. My friend grew some where they couldn't have roosters but they were city folk and could not successfully kill the rooster for a meal. I think they avoided eating chicken for a long time...

I doubt I could kill anything. Hunger makes people do things though.

I wondered what Lily was going to do when she heard a bird call. I never suspected it would be a rooster. This is a cute story that starts out sounding like Lily until I came to caressing her sensuous body. But in the end, I was glad it was Lily. Best wishes in the contest.

I bet she was surprised. I have not heard a rooster call in person or radio. I have only heard one on TV in movies. I think it is interesting that there is a station to play different bird calls.

The bird calls on the radio are usually native bird song, much less alarming than a rooster's crowing.
