This must have been for a blind contest so I never got to see it. But you did a great job! And I really like the personification used, especially in "The blade of a word muse carved us out from the eyes of the beholder."
Congrats on your second place finish!!

Wow! You mean I got second place, Helen? :) I had forgotten, must be getting old. Thank you.

See what you've missed? I guess this was back in March or something...

Nicely done, brother. An insightful piece lamenting the cultural shift from clarity of printed thought to grunts, groans and tribal gestures. Not only will language as we have known it disappear, I fear so will the heart and soul of mankind.
Interesting artwork to go with the piece. I've tried to link the image with your thought and come with nothing but the three letters: SBA. Meaning, connection?
All the best, Yard.

Thank you, Yard. :) I couldn't find anything on the computer to go with the flow so I choose that.

I like this piece - it is abstract yet filled with meaning. My name too would not make 'enny' sense.
Every little thing plays its part in the scheme of things, although perhaps a case could be made for doing away with 'i' as it is so ego-driven.

"I" don't know what you mean, Jenny. :) If we forget the I then f would start th?s sentence. (3) Yet, thinking about it, (3 i's) without some letters of the alphabet other letters would be substituted in their place. I'm glad you liked it. (8 more)

Some other languages get by without 26 letters, and some have sounds that English hasn't got... that Tower of Babel has a lot to answer for.

Oh goodness, I hope these letters are not forgotten (j and i). They are significant letters of the alphabet. It is like losing the letter "r". How many names have the letter "r" in their name? Several.

Well, I have a couple of R's in my name as well as a J. :) We need all of them, for not one should be forgotten

-Very nice artwork and story.
-I appreciate your notes, too.
-You have written the story well,
but I get the feeling there is more
being said that lie between the lines.
-This is just one good example:
We do not want to leave; we are letters from the alphabet.
What once was no longer shall be."
-This is a very good entry; good luck in the contest.

Thank you, Pam. :) A poet writes a reader read. :) I'm glad that you see.

Lol. Love your work and also your notes! The lesson is that each letter is important, the same as each person, and each has something to offer! Well done. Best wishes for your entry.

I hope you enjoyed parsing this contest as I did. Now I wonder how the next subject might be if the creator says write another piece without any vowels? .........................

This was such a fun read. The writing was really bouncy for something as oddly somber as this. I also like how writing from the perspective of the letters you weren't allowed to use. At least I think you were? That's all part of the challenge I suppose, hope you do well in the competition.

Well done on this. This contest was a real challenge and I am glad you were brave enough to try it. I looked at the rules and decided it was not worth it.
