I thoroughly enjoyed your ghost story, Lisa, and especially your notes. You set the scene well with the curious Janet who'd love to see a ghost listening to fellow campers explain the meaning of "Waltzing Matilda." Her death is not surprising as she defied taboo. Many years ago during the Vietnam War I listened to Australian sailors singing WM during Happy Hour at a naval base. I joined in! Rod

I apologize for commenting on the requirements for this contest but the main character getting eaten by a crocodile sounds pretty horrific to me. I do not like to read when bad things happen and I avoid those in particular so I would appreciate a heads up when a story of yours is going to be horrific.
This is still an excellent story and other than the ending I would say it was top-notch.
Well told I just don't like the gruesome details if you don't mind.
This offers an ironic twist that is a clever way to tell a supernatural story. As always, you are a prolific and wonderful writer.
Have a good weekend,
Jesse

But you have got it wrong Jesse! I would never have a crocodile kill someone! The story prompt said it had to be about a person, not an animal, so it was the Swagman's Ghost who was responsible. Read what Barnaby said in the last paragraph again, or maybe you topped reding when you thought it was a crocodile that grabbed her, based on my introduction of the Aboriginal legend.

An excellent short story. Yes there's enough legends and dangers, particularly the wildlife in the northern part of Australia, mind after a week in the Northern Territory, a couple of years ago, we never actually saw a croc. Beautifully written Jenny, blessings Roy

Baaaa. Intriguing story--quite a punchline. As to your notes--I commend you for meticulous citations, such as some people continually "forget" to include.

I could have been more scrupulous, but the notes were cobbled together from a few websites and i couldn't be bothered listing them all!
