Such a beautiful offering, Wendy!
And your message is so true.
My husband and I live on a bluff surrounded by hardwoods and pines.
"Our" trees have provided us with shade, inspiration, shelter, and so much more. We tend to them. We love them. We respect them. And are honored to live among their strength and beauty.
Thank you for sharing!

Oh that does sound wonderful. I love trees, and they all have much to offer, like people. Thanks so much for reviewing.

Great poem for the poetry contest. I love the description of age-rough and scarred. The worn tree is a shelter for all who come to it. Weather-worn provides the tree with strength.

Thank you Tim. Yes, strength and wisdom can be found with age, despite outward appearances. I appreciate your review.

This is a very evocative and emotive poem, with particularly strong description. As well as a tree, I found myself picturing my grandfather as I read.

Nature is often used as a metaphor for life in other forms, as you have depicted here. Old lives can indeed be very worthy, providing support through experience and knowledge.
Don't camp under an old gum tree, though, as your shelter might be demolished by a falling branch.

Thank you for a great review! True, one needs to be wise about camping! The apparent strength of the tree may be deceptive.

whoa. . . .very powerful words and I love the image you've chosen too. It is true, when we are powerful within, it is easy to reach out and be a helping hand for others.
