Wow, this is a beautiful poem that really tugs at the heart strings. It's emotional and sentimental. It's about love and it's sad. I think that is a gift to find someone to spend your life with until death do you part. It's a beautiful poem even though it's sad.

A beautiful poem. I'm sorry for your loss. The four stars are because the meter of the stanzas broke cadence in four of the five verses.

Maybe the second verse could read,
She looked up at me,
With tired, hazel eyes.
"Don't be sad" she said,
True love never dies.

And maybe the third verse could be,
Again we'll be together,
In God's house above.
So, please when I'm gone,
Don't forsake our love.

And the fourth stanza might be,
A tear slowly rolled,
Down her sweet soft cheek.
I gently wiped it away,
And tried, but could not speak.

For the fifth verse, maybe this,
Then she closed her eyes,
For the final time.
And I thanked our loving God,
Long ago He made her mine.

What a lovely love poem! I totally agree... "True love never dies." It continues long past the grave and has the power to change lives and bring joy and purpose. Thank you for this beautiful reminder of the meaning of true love. I hope this does well in the contest. I loved everything about it.

Hello author, your poem is beautiful, albeit sad. Of special note:

We were holding hands,
When she passed away.
I lost the best part
Of my heart that day.
(I leave my tear on this page.)

Beautiful photo. Good rhyming scheme. Heartfelt writing. Well done.
Today you wrote something brave--six stars for you. As this is a contest entry, I wish you good luck. LateBloomer

A beautiful poem about everlasting true love. Your use of free verse with rhyming. Made your poem about love and very emontial where you say,

'She closed her eyes
One last time,
And I thanked God
he- He made her mine'.

What a sad and sweet poem. I'm so sorry for your loss, but you express your love so beautifully and poignantly that you take the reader with you from the very first line. Your rhymes are very well chosen.

From a poetic standpoint, I'd suggest you work a bit on meter but, from an emotional standpoint, this is unsurpassable.
