Tom, a truly beautiful verse. I have two questions. Firstly, what did you do? And secondly, did it work?
Or, are you still in the bad books?
Go back to the first five words. I really loved this. It's a pity more men don't feel this way about their Wives.

If your questions relate to how I won her hand, the answer would be persistency. After a month of refusing my advances, fate entered. Our first date, was not a date at all for her. A fraternity brother was to take Myra to the military ball, got plastered, and passed out three hours before he was to pick her up. I showed up, unannounced, dressed to the nines, in a personal tux. It was a horrible surprise for her, where upon she said definitely not, but my wiles suggested we go to dinner, and if uncomfortable I'd returm her to the dorm. Yes, it work. The dance went well, and not long afterwards, I asked her hand, having overcome the ten-year age difference. Again, she answered in the affirmative, but with conditions. I had to wait 2.5 years.

Love poured from your pen as you shared your feelings for this woman. Your devotion to her is felt in every line. This is a beautiful tribute to the woman you love.

May the Lord bless you both richly,
Pen

I don't know how she does it, especially with the challenge of living with me 47 years. Being ten years my junior, she must realize tougher times are ahead, like when I inadvertently wet my bed, or forget where I am or was going. :-) Thank you.

I believe she will love you through it all. She took her wedding vows seriously. "In sickness and health, till death we do part." You are indeed a blessed man.
reply by the author on 17-Jul-2023
Actually, she is in deeper than that, as we were sealed for time and eternity, believing we will be reunited after death.

This poem, The Most Beautiful Girl, pulls in all the positive traits that one's mate reveals when dealing with the more-in-need-of-forgiving man in her life.

Who me? Yes, oh Wizard of West Forests. That would be me, nearly everyday. Perhaps, her magic lays is becoming strong like one would get in a gym facing bigger challenges daily.

This is very sweetly and romantically expressed! I like the way there is always - or usually - some modest/self-deprecating humour in your posts i.e. your inclusion (almost as an after-thought) in your wife's love of creatures. Good luck in the contest! Debbie

    Thank you.
To know me is to ... love me? i.d.k. about that!
Somehow she did, has and hopefully will continue to do so.

Tom, you have written a great love story. You know how lucky you are. No one has to tell you. You both found your soul mates. And it is great to hear about mutual love. I wish the two of you the best. And may you have many more great years together. I enjoyed reading your story. Have a great week.

I came. I saw. I conquered. Oops. Wrong movie. Yes. At twenty nine I asked if I was ever going to have a woman feel sorry for me. When she did I responded. Idk I guess thanks? Ok. Thanks.

You did a great job with your love poem contest entry, Tom.
I enjoyed reading it and could feel the love and devotion you
have for her and she has for you. I like the way you gave many
ways she uplifts and shows her love even when no words are
spoken. It's clear to readers she and you made a couple who
loved each other in ways many would not think of probably
because they don't give their significant other the same 'vibes'
which grows love.
Best wishes in the contest, Jan

Your author's notes are another poem in themselves - you should use them next time there's a 'poem in a sentence' prompt or something similar :-). The longer I live, the more I realise that what I covet is somebody I connect to - any ideas of type or specific looks I used to have seem restrictive and ridiculous nowadays.

I loved your love poem - beautifully expressed and romantically told :-)

I am an old soul who reminisces of days gone by. I got lucky at twenty-nine to meet a girl of nineteen in college whose mother told her she was to mature to date teens. We both lucked out. Now, I need to re-read my author notes. You have me curious.

It sounds like you are a lucky man, Tom. A very fine tribute to your lovely wife and the characteristics that make her so beautiful to you. Well done, and good luck in the contest.

Hi, Tom,
You just about wrote my life story here. I am so fortunate in having a beautiful, devoted mate who is with me in and through everything Life throws at us.
When you said that you served nautically, I assumed the US Navy, in which I only served 4 years, all aboard the USS Rochester, 7th Fleet flagship after the Mighty Mo was retired.
Blood-bathed Patriot, living in the absolute Best Country in The World!
Enjoyed your work!

I served ten years. Taught me lots. Weather became my field only because my electrical and mechanical tests were so poor they made me choose between parachute rigger and an Aerographer instead of endangering their man-o-wars. Having no intent to jump from planes made my decision easy. I was aboard the Presidential Command ship Wright CC-2, companion-in-arms to the Northampton CC-1 where we sailed off the VaCapes waiting to take the C-I-C away in case of threat. Also stationed at Andrews AFB, FWC's Guam and Norfolk, with a tour with a MetDet team on Coronado's North Island. Thanks for reading.

Hey, neat history! Did terrible on the clerical part of the aptitude tests so I wound up as an Electronics Tech, kind of rare back then. Helped put the first Regulus missiles on several carriers,
the USS Hornet and Kearsarge among them. Also spent time on the USS Pine Island, a sub tender, restoring their sonar. Got drafted onto the first nuke-powered sub, the Nautilus, SS68, when one of their techs went 51-50. Spent 2 months on board(Great Chow!) before I lost the seniority bid and went back to the old Rochester. Hit most of the far east, Australia was the absolute best liberty.
    Thanks for the reply!

Funny how life worked out. I thought I had enlisted in the Navy not Navy air but after seeing my mechanical and electronic score told
Me they could not trust me to not sink a ship so offered me weather or parachute rigging.

This is straight Dope!!! And you have the skill and ability to hold
the readers attention span captive with your amazing creative art.
I definitely appreciate the line, where you say... "Your capacity to
forgive is greater, because of what you forget". That Line is on fire.
And definitely has inspired... If you only knew. Stay Blessed....And
definitely, Stay Connected.
