The poem has a good flow. The images are clear. The story has a nice arc. The rhyme scheme is consistent. The story stays on point.

A good read. Thanks for sharing.

This is a charming poem that I enjoyed very much. It rhymes well and reads smoothly. I liked the imagery, too. It reminds me a bit of my small home town although it wasn't decked out that elaborately, but it was a lot of fun. Good luck in the contest.

Hey you! Clever poem/story! Loved your jaunty rhyme and tie-tapping meter! Inspired the way you spun you yarn. Never saw that ending coming, which made it a double treat! I'm so glad our town is allowing the kiddos to go out trick or treating this year. A tiny bite of normalcy will be so sweet!

Good luck in the contest!

Thanks, Karenina. I don't know what is going to be allowed here.

With rules, mandates, masks, etc --ever shifting it's all a crap shoot.

I HOPE it's still allowed by Halloween!

Wow, such a great read! Not only is it a wonderful Halloween poem but it teaches children to treat everyone equal. I can definitely see this turn into a children's Halloween book. Good job!

Thanks for the review. I've always thought about a children's book. Maybe I should do something about it.

What thoughtful kids initially, knowing they had plenty of lollies were prepared to share them with the little boy who was cropped, but a kindly elf had beat them to him, and had given him two bags of sweeties, but it in the thought that counts, this is a beautifully written ballad my friend, well done, blessings beautifully written, Roy

Thanks, Roy. I couldn't tell from your review if you knew that the elf was the little cripple boy, himself.

This is truly a delightful children's Halloween poem that tells a story and delivers a message about the virtues of sharing. The details of the story...an elf with a cane and green hat, collecting candy, is phenomenally creative. I enjoyed this story and the surprise ending. Best wishes in the contest.

Thanks, LJ. It was fun writing this poem. It did take me a few minutes to come up with the ending.

How cool was that, you had an entire street turn it on for you kids. That would definitely stay with a kid as a fond memory forever, I was raised in the UK so we didn't really do trick or treating... we missed out big time!

Since we lived in near poverty - Halloween meant a lot. We got so much candy! My brother ate his and got sick. I counted out the days that the candy would last and hid it in a special place so I would make it last a long time. Rich or poor, Halloween brought memories to us all. Your poem is well-written and a jolly memory!

Thanks for the review, Sherry. That's a very sad story about your Halloween. There must be a poem there.

And they could not believe their eyes,
For lying on his bed
Were two big bags of candy,
And an elf's hat on his head.' SO FUNNY! I loved this! A brilliant read that was cheering and spooky! Well done and good luck kindest regards Meia xx
