Great humerous poem.
I feel for that poor monkey caged and vulnerable.
Where did he learn to write?
I too, hope that if the monkey can write, then the lion can read.
Best wishes in the contest - a good entry.

Warmly,

Juliette

Thanks again, Juliette. The monkey learned to write when he took a "Monkey Business" course.

Good one! I'm a fan of dry humor.
Without the discipline or patience to write poetry, I'm exposed every time I reciprocate a review. It's outside my comfort zone and that's good thing. Live to learn!
This one is just right.
PS We used to live in Yarmouth

Thank you for the review. Is that Yarmouth, Maine or Yarmouth, Nova Scotia?

Yarmouth, Maine. My husband was USCG recruiter in Portland...Maine. We were also stationed in Portland, Oregon.

I worked in the commercial fishing industry in Rockland, Maine. Our plant and office was right beside the Coast Guard base. They are good people. They helped us out on more than one occasion.

Nice of you to say that. I served in Seattle, where I met my husband.

That's a coincidence. The company I worked for has an office in Seattle. We have five factory trawlers that fish out of Alaska.

Lol! That is so cute! I would hope at least the humans could read and not place the lion in a cage with a contagious monkey. Great rhymes and nicely told rhyming story poem!

You sir have great talent along with a twisted sense of humour, a sense of humour I love. Congratulations by the way on your 56 years of marriage. Well done. All I can say, is your poor wife.

Dear Mystery Writer,

Oh.

My.

Stars.

I am so disappointed. I read through all the entries. DILIGENTLY.

Yours was CLEARLY the best. Hands down. I placed my vote and was confident I'd see your entry in the top spot. Ugh. When I saw the numbers I wanted to SCREAM. There are just so many times I do not agree with (or understand) the voters!

So I had to come back and just let you know I thought this was cute and well done and so funny. It was tongue-in-cheek humor - not over-blown, which is so nice to find here. I didn't leave a comment at first because I was going through all of the entries and trying to catch up on contests - sorry! You weren't paying, to be honest, and didn't have any nits to remark on, so I just zipped right by. But then I had to come back and tell you that yours was the BEST - hands DOWN. At least, in my opinion AND you got MY vote. Thanks for sharing and good luck! Keep doing what you do!

Thanks for your kind words, Robyn. I usually don't go much for that kind of humor, but I thought I'd throw one in and see what would happen.

I think this is a cute verse for the Animal Opinions writing prompt.
This made me smile. Except for the "hell to pay", this would make a good children's poem.
Well done and I wish you good luck with the contest.

Thanks, Sharon. If my mother had read this there would have been "heck" to pay.

I enjoyed this, quite witty. Sometimes we do things that are logical to protect ourselves, but they're only logical in our own mind and culture. I thought this painted that well!

This is a cute poem! You say you aren't good at quickies, but this skilful poem says otherwise. It fitted the contest brief, rhymes well and ends on an enjoyably funny note.
