A commentary I wholeheartedly concur with . I think Biden is arrogant and egotistical and holds no grain of common sense. He is like a 2-year old playing the blame game. He has consistently put our country in danger, and appears to feel he is too superior and intelligent to have a need to listen to our military experts on the front lines or any other expert past of present. What happened to the 'no one left behind' promise? How many terrorists do you reckon he brought home to us? I am so grieved about our fallen 13, as we all are. Is Biden, though?

Forgive my ranting. Your exceptionally written factual account just got me fired up. Many thanks for sharing.

People are still trying to lay the blame on President Trump for this one, again, even Biden. It's sickening because the [withdrawal] is what's on his watch. The method, dangerous miscalculations, and the security of the whole thing handed over to the Taliban! How is that Trump? Biden is the Commander-in-Chief now, no one else. These sorry moves are his, and has shown how terribly lacking he is. He's 100% responsible! He has blood on his hands. Thing is, it's not over. It's just beginning. Those poor souls! 250+ Americans are still there trying to get out by other means. The Taliban have already begun their killings, parading American coffins in the streets. I saw and heard reports from the translators left behind. The certain fate of the country, the women and children, and the other Americans.... I am crying.... The horrors!!

Brett, thank you again for your top-notch journaling of this crisis. I apologize for no six for this is outstanding work.

Brett,

You have covered many of the errors in judgement, and lies, that have stained not only his hands, but those of every American. We are going to need a big comeback when we are finally rid ourselves of current leadership. We can only hoe more Americans will have gained the wisdom not to trust Biden with his domestic agenda before he bankrupts us.

Britain invaded Afghanistan three times:
1) 1838-1842
2) 1878-1880 and
3) 1919 -

The Soviets invaded Afghanistan 1979-1989.

The USA invaded Afghanistan 2001 to 2021. There seems to be a pattern emerging here, yes?

Sadly it seems blood on hands comes with the huge responsibility of the Commander-in-Chief job.

A navy seal was killed in a botched airstrike in Yemen ordered by Trump. Also in October, 2017 five Nigeriens, four US soldiers, and at least 21 ISGS militants were killed in a jihadist ambush on Niger when Chad volunteer troops pulled out of the fight against Boko Haram alongside American troops after Trump's "Muslim ban" came into force. Trump refused to even call the families of the fallen American soldiers to express his condolences.

I agree the Biden administration did a poor job of developing evacuation plans if there were any at all. I somehow doubt it. And Biden still has yet to share his thought process in taking the actions he did. He has yet to level with the American people and the world, that also had units in Afghanistan.

He is not going to survive this if he doesn't start getting honest, and fast. His speech today came across as out-of-control angry, until he subsumed into that cringe-worthy whispering thing he does.

Let's all hope for better days. Thanks for sharing.

Very well stated. You certainly have my attention with these posts. I like your specific references and use of excellent quotations. I listened to Biden's remarks today, and he was spinning faster than clothes in a laundromat. He tried mightily to justify his actions re. Afghanistan and make it look like a win, and continued to blame Trump, although he's shown he can throw out other Trump decisions whenever he wishes. No matter how much he praises his decision, he's suffered in the eyes of the world. He'll be seen as weak and indecisive, and enemies will seize the advantage. judi

The situation in Afghanistan is beyond belief. You write passionately and make valid points about the withdrawal process being deeply flawed, leaving foreign nationals with horrific prospects (I know you are writing from an American's viewpoint; my personal fear is for the 350+ New Zealanders and visa holders left behind,)
Joe Biden has made mistakes in his presidency, but let's not forget the part your guy played in the lead-up, such as...

" the deal Trump struck with the Taliban--which the GOP hopes people will forget--in his statement over the weekend, saying: "When I came to office, I inherited a deal cut by my predecessor--which he invited the Taliban to discuss at Camp David on the eve of 9/11 of 2019--that left the Taliban in the strongest position militarily since 2001 and imposed a May 1, 2021, deadline on U.S. forces. Shortly before he left office, he also drew U.S. forces down to a bare minimum of 2,500. Therefore, when I became president, I faced a choice--follow through on the deal, with a brief extension to get our forces and our allies' forces out safely, or ramp up our presence and send more American troops to fight once again in another country's civil conflict. I was the fourth president to preside over an American troop presence in Afghanistan--two Republicans, two Democrats. I would not, and will not, pass this war on to a fifth."

The disaster in Afghanistan will probably cost Biden the presidency, rightly so, but foreign troops' continued involvement there was only destined for continuing deaths and no permanent peace, or loyalty from a trained Afghan army after all that expense that just melted away. The Taliban were always going to win. They are unstoppable in their homeland, willing to use fanatical force like suicide bombing.

Correction:
disasterous (disastrous)

Hey Brett, thank you so much for your willingness to put yourself on the line with this essay. Biden's Blood-Soaked Hands Took courage to write and I'm sure you'll get some backlash from somebody concerning this. But if that is the case I'm sure you're able to handle it. It is amazing to me what our political system has done in tearing down our country. It wasn't perfect but it was the greatest example the world has ever seen. I firmly believe that. It is now all in jeopardy. May God help us all!

It's still hard for me to believe that we've walked out of twenty-years of sacrifice and so many lives lost in the manner that we have. And now, we've left terrorists better armed than they have ever been. Thanks for sharing.

So many mistakes were made. Hopefully we will not have to go back into Afghanistan. Always appreciate your comments and reviews.

We will have to go back to Afghanistan, sadly. But the question is when and for how long. Hopefully just for quick bombing bursts to stop the imminent terrorist cells.

I'm not sure what was expected of Biden to do, but set a date, we have Aussie citizens there too. Even the British didn't invade Afghanistan, they just guarded the Kuyber pass, they've always been tribal with factional war chiefs dictating their brutal history, it was always going to be an unwinnable war, the Russians pulled out in 1979, it was Vietnam all over again, there's lots of injustice in China, why haven't we invaded them?
