This sounds like Christmas came early for the conservatives who knew Afghanistan was a twenty-year war at the outset. If the withdraw from that shithole was going to be easy, Trump would have done it instead of avoiding all activities that weren't in his personal interest. Obama took it in the pants for getting out of Bush's war and Biden for doing what Trump was too press-conscious to do.

Impressive work. I was struck by how unapologetic Biden has appeared after the fall of Kabul. He fell back on his favorite strategy of blaming Trump. The U.S. has too much invested in Afghanistan to give up on the country. The rest of the world is watching, too. Countries that look to the U.S. to help keep the world secure are shaking their heads, and our enemies, like Iran, must be licking their chops to see what damage they can do. Excellent use of quotes and references to persons with knowledge of the situation on Afghanistan. judi

Well, I've pretty much commented on this post in my review to your last post. I agree that the situation has not been handled properly, but what has Biden ever handled properly. With that said, American can't keep fighting another twenty years for people who aren't willing to stand up and fight for themselves. Thanks for sharing.

So, enough of that. It was bound to happen, but it's no less shocking. But then comes the question, why did the west interfere in the first place. Yes 9/11 happened and that is really the answer. So now, after 20 years, the West pulls out and in a few short weeks, the whole reason for it all is null and void. So many lives lost and for what? For nothing. Now China and Russia can really celebrate. The world has become very dangerous, indeed. I ended up writing my own essay, didn't I? Ulla:)))

He is so sure that what he does is right. Yet, everything he does is wrong, wrong, wrong. It appears that there was no good plan in play for the withdrawal of the troops. How can anyone expect rational authority from an irrational authority.?

A pity the politicians didn't factor that in. I don't know enough about American politics to start laying the blame. Trump initiated the withdrawal and Biden executed it.
It seems everyone was taken by surprise by the rapid collapse of the government forces as the Taliban executed their blitzkrieg.
No-one interfering in the internal affairs of this complex and fragmented country we call Afganistan has ever come out of it well.

You might want to check out my "Etched Memories." The double-speak, CYA coming out of all the oozing mouths of the administration makes me want to vomit. It would have been hard to do a better job of botching our extrication. And of course, who could forget Biden's immortal and original words, "It's Trump's fault!"
I suspect that as fear of Covid loses power, it will be supplanted with the "growing threat of terrorism, both foreign and domestic." All dissent and disagreement will be redefined.

You don't hand a country over to the Taliban. These are the architects of 9/11 and everything life sucking and hellacious on the world's stage. They will spread their misery like gangrene. Those poor souls... the children and the mothers. God have mercy on us all.
