I thought I'd pop in and have a look to see which haiku was teetering on the edge of receiving a Recognized Ribbon - and I found one. This is deserving of a ribbon as I know what typical teen angst is like. I live with it every day x 2 to give me headaches galore... no, migraines if it's one of those days. There are some good days but I remember when they were younger, I had many happy, fun and laughter days. I miss them. Thanks for the memories and the reminder :-)

    DD,

    We both know that this Recognized Ribbon accolade is typically based on the number of personal fans we have ( and who review the same!) and how we may pump the same with FS funny moneys. BUT, your review and comments make my day. Commiserations on your double teen trouble. I am a bit past that phase, but my daughter has twin 9 year old girls. She and her husband (methinks) have this pre-teen angst already LOL

    Yes, I can agree with you about the Recognised Ribbon comment but it was my pleasure to push you over the edge to receive one :-)
    As for the teen angst... it could be worse. I know I am a good parent and they are good 'kids' - nearing the end of their teen years so there is light at the end of the l000ng tunnel. ~DDx

    DD,

    At a PTA program I attended when my children were in HS, the health professional speaker was asked by a parent: my senior daughter is driving me crazy. The speaker asked if she was going to college. The mother replied affirmatively. The speaker then said, ?That will solve your problem!? For you, the end of the tunnel may not be that long (-;

    P.S. BTW ? THANKS for putting me over the top!

Ciao poet .. you now have three votes

This is a theme not often mentioned and yet we all went through it and experience a roller coaster of emotion good and not so good.

The transition from childhood to adulthood ; ten years of great physical changes, first responsibilities , much confusion etc

I passed all my childhood and teens in boarding schools so I had very little to no family or outside life beyond those walls..

I grew up in a bubble, kinda of,
for the better or the worse.

Never really grew up.

The perfect topic for a senryu ,a walk down memory lane.

    Thank you Tempeste for your review and voting support. The winning entry deserved the top rung. It was a tribute to our fallen heroes. For that one, the message would be the same for the children if their parent was in the casket as a result of a Covid death.

    The teen years can be troublesome for some. Not a psychologist, but my guess is if you were a child with ?terrible twos? then your teenage years may also have been an issue LOL

Those teenage years are probably one of the most stressful times of human life. It doesn't help that the frontal cortex actually decreases so teens are not able to make good decisions. You show those poor decisions in your poem and summarize it with "typical teen angst!" Best wishes in the contest!

    Helen,

    I missed that science class so I am unaware if the shrinkage of the frontal cortex also applies to seniors or not (-; Your good wishes carried forward in my placement on the contest podium.

    I have heard that children who suffer the ?terrible twos? are more likely to have that teenage angst.

"broken promises
entangled relationships ~
typical teen angst"
Very well said. It has been a long time since I was a teenager, but your words aptly describe what it is like. Thankfully, it comes to an end and life gets better.

    Thanks for your insight into our post teen years (-; As seniors now, we may have likely forgotten those angst years. LOL

    You are welcome. Don't think I would want to be a teenager today.

Navigating those deep seated emotions can take its toll, but we learn to cope over time as those feelings never leave us alone as adults, we learn to nurse our broken hearts, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

    Thanks Dolly on your spin on life beyond our teenage years. Except for the occasional outbreak of acne, I recall no serious angst during those years LOL

Yes, indeed, girls seem to compete on a completely different level than boys, they are an enigma, their relationships are very complex. But the rules of any relationships to work are the same for both genders. Beautifully written Blessings, good luck, Roy

    Thanks Roy for those kind words. Yes boys and girls navigate their teen years in completely different ways. And the females may have more angst in their teen years too.

-Good artwork
and presentation.
-The syllable count is good,
along with the topic.
-Effective examples of
teenage angst, something
most of us go through.
-A well written poem;
good luck in the contest.

    For some those teen years are tough. For others they sail through that period without too much angst. The children psychologists probably have something to say about the terrible twos. I doubt they would label that time as angst (-;

    Thanks for sharing. I don't think terrible two's would qualify, either, but you never know how things carry on in a person.

Great idea for the contest. Yes, today's young teenagers have to deal with so much, and I really understand their anger.
We, as adults, can only offer good advice and hope they follow
our example.
Wonderful entry for the contest.
Best of luck,
Marie

    Yes, do as I say and not do as I do LOL Even adults don?t follow good advice. Not getting a vaccination shot against Covid is a problem for too many.

Oh so very true! I am a driving instructor...I hear about the teen drama everyday. I try to give some sound advice, but sometimes it's just enough to get them to cool off. Great write, right on the money.

    Remind me not to be on the road when your teen driver ed students , with angst, are on the road LOL Thanks for your encouragement. I am a big fan of this short style poem, especially in the 5-7-5 format.

This is an extremely pertinent reflection on a phase of life that can last for five years or over 5% of our time on earth. A memorable period that is a morass of confusion as hormones run unchecked.

    For some, those seven years may not be so lucky and very confusing. I had no big problems with that time, except for some acne (-;
