I completely understand this poignant poem! Family is wonderful, don't get me wrong, but they are busy with their lives and right they should be.
It's ok to rely on poetry for comfort and communion. Most great poets felt it completed their lives as water satisfies thirst, so poetry does satisfy a spiritual thirst.
Keats, Byron and Shelley, to name a few, felt the way you do, JayBird. Jesus' earthly family didn't realize at first that he was The King, either ( not to assume we are like Him) but I hope you get the point.
Great honest poem.

The sanctuary we find in writing is a blessing. The young don't realize that they are ignoring their elders, they just have so much going on their minds don't calculate their sins of omission.

The younger generation does not know they are truly robbing themselves of spending time with a special person with a wealth of experience and knowledge. One day, they will realize their error.
