The persona is the mask we present to the world. The real individual, the ego lurks behind it and may be hidden by the structure of the mask. i this poem the structure of the mask is smiles - better than the pomposity with which too many face the world.

Now look what you did, Gynt. Made me Google "pomposity". I assumed it was related to pompous :) I was right. lol I am just a small town gal, so I never stop learning.
Thank you so much my very talented friend for taking your time to leave me this kind review.

To some extent I can identify with these words as relationships can be fickle and destroyed so easily with actions and words, a fine write, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

I guess we all wear masks, like armour to protect ourselves from possible psychological incursions, it's such a shame that we can't be more open and confident in our own skin, beautifully written Missy, blessings Roy,

I think the best way to describe this is tragically beautiful. Such a relatable piece and so artfully conveyed. I found the 4th stanza particularly poignant. Keep up the good work!

I like the message of the poem. The staggered line length at the beginning reflects the uneven events. The last three lines, all the same length gives punch to message of hidden pain. The words also give a less melodic roll lending a certain melancholy.
A good read. Continue writing.
