Your phrasing cracks me up: he currently resided subterraneously; to bear witness; in a last ditch effort; alas, Grandpa had stayed dead, so they had to proceed with the burial; the one guy rooting for Grandpa
The scene of the five of you praying started me laughing uncontrollably.
I had finally calmed down when I reached the last line and the laughter started again and continues to this moment.
How did our parents survive all our antics?
Great job here, Liz!

Lovely ssssssurprise!
Thrilled you were amused!
The story as told is fiction; it was based on a true event in which I had no involvement.
Hamsters don't hibernate as a rule, but some do--lots about it online per my notes.

Oh, no! I'm crushed. Hamsters don't hibernate??? Perhaps their hibernation lasts about 3 hours, since they're such tiny creatures. LOL

This is very funny. My favorite part, which reminded me just slightly of Huckleberry Finn in tone, was: Susan, having recently attended the funeral of her grandfather, suggested that we recite a graveside prayer. Susan recalled that, in a last ditch effort, the minister had beseeched the Lord to grant Grandpa eternal life; alas, Grandpa had stayed dead, so they had to proceed with the burial.
The whole hamster hibernation thing is intriguing. I had understood that hamsters in captivity don't really hibernate much per se, so I appreciate your responses on the reviews to explain this really was based on a true experience, somewhere, to someone.

Ha, ha, ha hibernation really? I had no clue they do that:) "We kids figured, since there were five of us, versus just the one guy rooting for Grandpa, that the combined power of our prayers might tip the scales in favor of resurrection.
Before the digging commenced, and throughout the process, we all prayed aLOUD to the Lord, to bring Harry back to life.
Lo! A miracle was wrought. When the cardboard coffin was opened, Harry was sniffing about, whiskers a'twitchin'. " Thank you for sharingand good luck with your writings.

Is this for real? Never believe anything you read online, right? Hamster's hibernate? Wtf. Mind blown. I know they eat their young if you don't separate them. I had hamsters when I was a kid, which brings me to the story of snowball.
On the way home from purchasing an albino hamster, I told my dad I thought he hamster was crawling on me in the car. He scoffed and waved it off. I said, no seriously! To which he flipped on the interior light to reveal an empty box and Snowball on my shoulder. She escaped many more times than that once we got her home. She was missing for five days once. Lol

Things are never truly as they seem, or at least not all the time. And with kids, they can be so easily manipulated with just the absence of a few facts. Thanks for sharing.

I am amazed at the way you narrate your cute stories from your life. I am also amazed that you remember the details so well. I can't remember what I did three days ago, not to speak of thrid standard days. I appreciate your cameraderie. The thrill of witnessing a resurrection shows well in your story. Cheers to that. I love this post!

Liz, this is hilarious! Good thing that group of friends were rebellious enough to ignore the teachers vote on the disinterment. Your abilities at story writing shine in this one for sure! :)

Oh dear! What unwitting parents, piling so much potential and unnecessary grief on their child - not that it seemed to have had any major effect on him!

The story as told is fiction; it was based on a true event in which I had no involvement. Nor did the boy's parents have knowledge of the hamster's apparent demise, he buried it and told them after the fact.

I love this story! That must have been one powerful prayer! That must have been quite a story for the class. There was Harry, alive and twitching, after being presumed dead. Good thing they thought to open his coffin. What a wonderful episode for a TV show. judi

A great anecdote. Too bad the TV sitcoms don't have stories like that any more. judi
