We have to give the front line workers lots of praise, too, besides the doctors and nurse. This virus is an unending disease until positivity sets in and there's great results from the vaccine.

Oh Wow! Australia is a paradise compared to your abode. Our problem is called 'shuffle 'em elsewhere'. You can get an appointment at most clinics and the waiting time to see your doctor of choice is usually half an hour to 3'1/4 then when the doctor looks up your file and with an attentive expression on his face you are then given the wisdom of his years at Uni; "Right now I want a complete bloodwork done, x-rays and CT scan and I'll see you back in a fortnight with the results, and I'll attend to that ingrown toenail then. Just pay at the desk on your way out. Goodbye. Sincerely Anne

I am shocked at your health care. In the US, it's extremely expensive, but good. Of course, if you can't afford it, the rest of us will pay for it with health insurance premiums, but you still get medical care. Thank you for sharing.

As a life-long Canadian, it really pains me to read this Iza. I know our health care system isn't perfect, but how many are? But we do have many, many dedicated doctors and nurses who have been working long hours for over a year, putting their own lives at risk during this pandemic. And we get that treatment no matter what our economic situation. I hate to think where we'd all be without them. I'm sorry to hear that your friend didn't get the treatment he should have had, as quickly as he should have, but I really doubt that he was sent home because the healthcare workers were too lazy to look after him. Because Alberta is in a terrible third wave, there aren't enough beds and equipment to deal with all the patients. Some are being sent to Ontario.

Of course they aren't the only frontline workers. We need to pay tribute to the people who make sure we can get food on our tables, and feed our pets, and educate our children.

You call out the people who are not doing their job; going against the popular refrain. Well I am not in the all bright all dark camp; I kind of see life as a grey area. In your rant you speak of all the incompetence, the people who are slacking, and these people do exist. I like the specific examples you gave about what happened to your friend. In my own experience, I have come across doctors who just want to do surgeries to make money, and also great doctors who took the time to explain what was wrong and solve my problems. In the world, there are all kinds of people, heros and humps. estory

Hi Iza.

This is a very interesting story to me. It is my opinion that governments in the Western world have used coronavirus to place unreasonable demands upon their citizens.

The two examples you gave are very disappointing. I know that Canada has socialized medicine. America wants to have it. That's because most Americans are ignorant of socialism and what it really imposes on the people. In socialism, there are two classes of people. There are the socialists and there are the peasants.

Suggestion:
Change "except" to "accept" in the last sentence.

Robert

I guess no matter what the system is there are going to be mistakes, and if nothing else, charging big bucks will probably sharpen the system up, but would you rather pay $125 for a doctor visit or nothing Iza? Well done, blessings Roy

I must agree with your thoughts on our "front line" workers, Iza. We do have those who really care and put themselves out there, but then we have those who see themselves as the "only one with the answers." Unfortunately, the latter plays Russian Roulette with lives. Smiles, Carol

What a sad condemnation of the health system and the front-line workers in your country. Yet, I am sure that they aren't all so uncaring - I pray that they aren't. Your writing is strong and passionate and sad. My deepest sympathies.

Heartbreaking. A stunning diatribe on the twisted system--a spot-on snarky tour de force with a deadly serious message. Back-line workers--brilliant.
