You got me again with the ending!
Why the six?
Because I recognize some reality in your story. I imagine how things are going to play out all the time. A lot of hand wringing for naught.
Well done my friend.

    Lovely ssssssurprise!

He probably wouldn't have gotten a dui==he'd had one drink--but he imagined the worst-case scenario. Now he's obsessing about the consequences as regards an incident report--there is more to the story--the kid's friend confronted Chuck and threatened to report him--the father filed a report though it appears to be inoccuous. Fingers crossed. Cheers. LIZ

Boy, thst would really be a great escape, drinking and driving is no excuse here, and probably there as well. It's a wonder Chuck, I hope it jolted him into reality, sober it's an accident, drunk it's murder. Well done Liz, blessings Roy

Wow, I hope there is no real truth to this one. Other than the kid wasn't hurt, or at least not enough to keep him from getting up and riding away. But it's true, a few drinks before driving makes the man behind the wheel automatically guilty. Thanks for sharing.

Wow! How many drinks did Chuck have? I'm glad that the surprise ending was a happy ending. The police never stopped Chuck or charged him. The boy rode his bike home and Chuck won't be dyeing in prison. A lot happened in this story even though not much happened. Chuck is okay. Well done.

Oh MAN! You got me AGAIN! I remind myself to expect the cleverly crafted twists and turns of your flash fiction...and STILL I fall like a brick for the "change-up" every time! You have that way of drawing me in...
I think it's called writing talent. I know it is! --Karenina

Ah! It was listed as flash fiction so I did not realize it was a true account! Well, either way, I'm hoping things all work out.--Karenina

Good flash fiction piece. I wrote a similar flash several years ago: "There but for the grace of God" which the antagonist actually killed a mother and child.

No worries. He will be let off with a warning,.(assuming he has no previous traffic offence) Good luck!

Never a traffic offense. The only potential problem would be if the kid
reply by the author on 29-Mar-2021
No former offenses--the only potential for trouble if the kid turns out to have a delayed-onset head injury. Chuck's anxiety is sky high.

He should resort to meditation and deep breathing to keep his mind at rest.

Well, that was a surprise ending! Lol. I can imagine the poor man now will punish himself anyway. That the boy picked himself up and rode away, what a brilliant ending, to an otherwise, sad story. Well done again!! :)) Sandra xx

This is it. My last hoarded six star for the week. I need to use it now as I am exhausted and want to get off to bed BEFORE the clocks go on. Your flash merits it because of the tale of living death haha
