Very crisp and clear writing, and an entertaining way to learn grammar--especially for those of us with a love-hate relationship with commas. I'll have to check out more of your work.

Hello there G!! Well done on this cleverly crafted essay on the humble comma. It is perfect and does show the characteristics and examples of correct usage. I enjoyed reading it. All my best.

I understand how meaningful commas can be, but I still think they're a pain. I do struggle with commas, and often use the guidance, of when in doubt leave them out. I do understand that in many situations they are very important.

Spot on! Stunning examples--very amusing--about the importance of comma placement/omission. No doubt you've read Lynne Truss's book Eats, Shoots and Leaves!

More great advise and example of using the comma. Commas really can save a life as we see the wrong placement can get grandpa shot and the woman might eat her dog and family. Yuck. Well done once again.

You are right, when used right, commas are necessary. I hope your little daughter is having a good time learning from her Dad--the Master of Punctuation. Thanks for the refresher course.
Respectfully, Jan

Hahaha, Gareth, some great examples to the usage of the comma and how it drastically alters the meaning to the sentence. I remember, how you've showed it to me through my lack of knowledge in the past. I've had some good teachers on this site. Thanks for that. Ulla:)))

I must admit, I've actually read some sentences from writers, and I had to correct their lack of, or indeed, their obvious mismanagement of a sentence. Thanks for this, great job, great meaning and teaching tool. Blessings Gareth. Roy

You've given great examples to show the necessity of using commas correctly. And you've done that with a sense of humor as well. Applause for taking on a grammar lesson with humor.

Gareth,

What a fun second serving! These were great examples of the importance of a well-placed comma - it reminds me of that fabulously high-performer, Eats, Shoots, and Leaves, the book on the same subject. The title alone helped sell millions of copies.

For some reason, your line about boring punctuation reminded me about my eldest daughter's final year or two of high school where she settled on volleyball as her sport of choice. It was still new around here and everyone, pretty much, avoided the games (especially most of the kids her age) because it was a 'boring' sport. OMS. That still rankles. haha

Thanks - great job!
