I only know the childhood memories of stories from the Bible. I vaguely recall "Lazarus rising from the dead." I didn't know Jesus wept, but I think you nailed it on the head. He had to have been weeping for the sadness he may cause Lazarus when the dead man realizes he is back in the human world and not being shined on by God's heaven anymore. On the other hand, Lazarus now knows what is in store when death really does take him for good, provided he remains a good man. Wouldn't it be nice to know that? But it may also cause him great angst from his raising to his death, knowing what is in store and possibly wishing for it... quite a quandary for Lazarus. Jesus did well to weep.

"Jesus wept" is the shortest verse in the King James Bible, which leaves it a little lacking in elaboration, so thank you for your interpretation of what may be a possible reason for His tears. "I believe Jesus wept for the unthinkable act He needed to do to Lazarus, to take him away from the glory of God" seems a valid summary.

Jesus summed it up by stating He was the resurrection and life and for sure He is that. The entire ordeal was created for a purpose and that was to demonstrate before man that He was the resurrection and life and those He calls unto Him will live again.
Nobody can come to the Lord but drawn by the Father.
Thanks for sharing.

That makes so much sense! I'm sure had Lazarus been able to remember his short time with God, he wouldn't have been very pleased with Jesus for pulling him away! This is an excellent contest entry, and I wish you the best of luck! :)) Sandra xx

What an interesting take on this Bible story. People who have technically died but come back to life in earth have described the glory of Heaven. Who knows? MAybe that IS why Jesus wept.

'I believe Jesus wept for the unthinkable act He needed to do to Lazarus, to take him away from the glory of God.' (What an intriguing thought!!!) I will ponder on that one.

Well done.

I'm afraid this may be just another theory, I never tried to assume an interpretation, but one I heard makes more sense than the rest. It was, after all, His last miracle here on earth, but more than that, I think He wept because His humanity knew those it wouldn't save, no matter what He did. He still had a deep love for all mankind, let's ask Him when we get there eh. Well done, great write, blessings Roy

Startling take on the theme! I am Biblically-challenged but know of the story from my Christian friends--I've never heard anyone ponder this question--congrats on a thought-provoking piece--startling conjecture!

Very well written story settled in Jesus times. I am thinking as well why Jesus cried, and then, I know he was a human being just like us, we do cry in times of stress and betrays..
