This style of poetry may look simple--but is actually rather challenging. You have done well with it. The topic is appealing and timeless. I well remember, as a child, wearing my frilly little dress and shiny black patent leather shoes to church--then seeing how fast I could get out of them afterwards.

Harmony, yes I would love to get dressed up and be able to go to church.

A interesting and different poem, for a different and interesting set of requirements. You have written it well with a great photo prompt which lends itself to this style. Well done.

Wendy, Thank you, I appreciate your time taken to read and comment on this poem

Nice commentary about how people dress according to social expectations and the context of where they might be seen. And these days with the cold and masks and hats, we definitely would not want to be seen by the Queen!
Best to you in the contest!

I admittedly don't know a lot about Sijo poems, but this seems to follow the format well as described here, (a bit different from what I found upon internet research). You introduce the theme, elaborate, counter, and complete. Well done and best of luck.

They do look the part, don't they? But what's underneath the lady's dress is very uncomfortable! I enjoyed reading the poem, it went so well with the picture. I'll have to look at their site. Well done, and good luck in the contest. :)) Sandra xx

-It is a nice photo and
a good presentation.
-You wrote a very good
poem that meets all of
the requirements.
-Effective imagery paints
a vivid word picture of the
couple in their 'Sunday best.'
-The counter theme is very good,
as well as the concluding verse.
-A good entry; good luck.

I like the photo you choose to go with your poem, they are a perfect match
you captured my attention from the first line to the last
those were the days now the ladies wear pant instead of dress... Jesus did say come as you are.
Thank you for sharing

Miss Cookie, if we could only get dressed to go to church again, I do think would wear a suit to celebrate.

Amen maybe one day

'Sunday's Best', is an extremely well-written and delightfully descriptive piece. Penned with craft and skill. This talented poet's work was a pleasure to both read and review. Good luck with the contest. Please let me know how you get on?
