    Smiles Aussie
Being in the North East we always look for snow so we can have a white Christmas.

Love this description of the Aussie Christmas. I can just picture the scene and all of the characters in the family. Been there, done that once or twice when the kids were small!

I would love to celebrate Christmas at the beach. Your Christmas tale is fun and you give a clear scene of an Aussie Christmas holiday. There is a happy feeling in your words. Love the pic of Santa with a koala bear.

I love this, Aussie. Are these Christmas memories and is this an up to date version? My memories of Christmases are quite different than the ones I've enjoyed over the last couple of decades.
My favorite line of this is a strange one to choose--Grandpa, hands on hips solid stare. That is so realistic. Why do they do that? Are they unhappy that their routine is busted? Or, are they unhappy with money spent?
I also like ice on top stop the hot. That's such a clever way to put it.
I enjoyed seeing Christmas in Australia. I think a Christmas picnic is a wonderful idea.
Enjoyed your poem, Aussie. Thanks for sharing.

G'day Debbie, No, not up to date (childhood memories) I'm 75 now! It still goes on though, too hot inside. Some families have BBQ's at home. Our time was much more simple. I think grandpa was just in a hurry to get to his beer and the beach and get away from screaming kids! We didn't have a lot of money post war - we made our decorations from colored paper. Boy, haven't things changed? Kids today are so spoilt, give me, get me etc. We had to work for anything we got and helping mum gave us 50c! Thanks for reading my friend. Love, Kay xx

My favorite Christmas memories are of my extended family getting together. I don't even remember the first gift that I ever got. It was the family parties that still warm my heart--all the cousins--all the food.

I remember the first gift you got...the tooth fairy told me you got sixpence! Hee, Hee.

Good luck with the contest Kace. I loved the picture of Santa and a Koala and the background color you chose. Nice rhyme. You created a Christmas day at the beach and all the events involved. Great job.

Bravo Aussie.
Funny, reading ...sand and sea to spend Christmas makes one realize how different Christmas can be, but how the common denominator is love , family, togetherness, and God for many, but not for all.
Love hearing about the small things that become so important...wonderful.
Well done my dear friend...good to read from you.
Wishing you a very happy Christmas if I don't get the chance to say.
Best wishes.

A very well-written poem about an Aussie Christmas that are like a South African Christmas in summer time, usually very hot and we prefer spending the day outdoors nearby water to cool off.

Spending Christmas in the sun is unique and it is just not the same and as much fun as spending it in the cold weather! But when I was a kid I dreamt of have Christmas by the beach one day, my dreams came true, you brought your Christmas experience to life here, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Hi Dolly, I'll swap you and have the snow instead. Sometimes the temperature can go to 38c - who wants a hot dinner then? All my family have passed over; only me and my dog. He loves ham! Blessings, Happy Christmas if I don't catch you before. Love, Kay xx

So interesting to learn about someone else's Christmas traditions. I have a hard enough time feeling festive in Florida at Christmas where it's still mild in the winter. Then to think of you being in the middle of summer is even harder to imagine, but it sounds like you have fun. I'm a Midwestern girl who likes her snow for Christmas(it can melt the next day!) Good luck in the contest.

Hello Blondie, Well, Christmas falls in high summer here. When I was growing up (many moons ago) mum cooked baked dinners with cold hams. It's interesting the customs of different countries. Thank you.
