Michael, This is a very well written poem about not being able to bring back the summer or anything at all. You used very good descriptive words and very beautiful imagery. Thanks for sharing. Blessings, teri

A wistful sense of longing for those halcyon days of Summer that are but a memory now as winter is all around - a nice philosophical touch towards the end with an acknowledgement that 'I can't be sure of anything '

I very much liked your poem.
There is hope and sensibility in it.
The images are wonderful.
I totally love the second stanza particularly, "lifeless leaf" and "what lies beneath."
In my 60's now, it's hard to have the optomism that I once had.
This year has bowed us all.
You're right: we can't be sure of anything, But we need to be as sure as we can be of ourselves and about what we can control. Blessings to you.

Thank you for your thoughtful appraisal, Cynthia. You are quite right to say that at the very least we can try and have some good effect on our immediate surroundings. I suppose it is natural that we begin our lives full of hope, then as the years go by, reality closes in on us as we gain experience. Hopefully this process also develops our characters in a deeper and positive way!

Thank you for responding. Let's you and I, at least, try to bring lightness into each day.

yes. And we lower our expectations when we get older, which is probably a good thing. It isn't about giving up...it's about developing more appreciation for things we used to take for granted. Right?
