This presents a very wise take on life and the purpose it serves. I have done a lot of volunteer work as an adult, and I can attest to the fact that it helps the volunteer just as much as the person being assisted...just in a different way. I was even a hospice volunteer at one point and it was one of the most rewarding experiences I have been blessed to have regarding the needs of others and becoming a positive and helpful person in their lives...even if it is only for a short while. Thank you for sharing this excellent posting!

You have a smooth flow of rhyming words and a smooth flow of lines. Your theme is relevant to today's world, we need to focus more on coming together and on the time we have
This is an excellent entry for the contest and best wishes.

Hello Jaybird1,
Nice piece of poetry having impressive phraseology, captivating flow throughout from the beginning to the end with lovely rhyming scheme, and beautifully depicting its theme.
These lines are particularly noteworthy:
"We can't buy back, at any cost,
the precious time that we have lost."
Best of Luck in the contest.

Stunning verbiage and poignant expression that cuts to the chase on the problems of the world. If you were on the ballot, I'd have to put a checkmark by your name. Wise observations, as always. Take care.

Howdy fellow Kentuckian - I'm in Louisville. I've only visited the Appalachian area once. Had a friend in Whitesburg doing missionary work. I like this poem. Well done. There's a good book titled The Thread That Runs So True by another Kentuckian named Jesse Stuart, but I reckon you've already read it.

-Thanks for sharing your
note and poem, jaybird.
-A well written poem with
effective imagery, rhyme,
and a good topic.
-I like the opening line.
-I agree that there are many
who don't care, but I think
there are many who do, too.
-They just aren't on the news!
-A very good closing verse
that I totally agree with!
-Good luck in the contest, too!

Your sage wisdom is certainly needed in the crazy world we live in today.
We do need to come together - and with faith and hope, I know we could.

Good message Jay - Hope someone is listening.
Blessings
Janet

Hello Jay!
True and pertinent words in your poem that speaks to me - especially the following two lines:
The world's in turmoil, here and there,
while far too many do not care.

Please note the needed edits:
If we could halt the moving sun,
stop times (time's) progression on it's (its) run;
There is so much that we could do,
before our time on earth is through.

Thank you for sharing!

Very nice we still can have on earth that which God spoke. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Praying and turning away from wickedness, will allow God to heal our land.

These quatrains have a flowing meter and easy rhymes and warn us that if we don't stop wasting time then we will keep spiraling down. With help and faitih we can work with each other to start piecing things back together so we can have both physical and societal health.
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Joan
