Tony, How can I not give this a six. It's an endearing chapter and so well written. I'm there with them both. What doesn't hurt is that I know Paris a Versailles very well. But even if I didn't you make it all come alive. I'm in intrigued. Now what? I can't wait to be reading on. All the best. Ulla:)))

Another very fine and well-paced instalment here. The dialogue is filled with little incidentals that give it a ring of authenticity without wandering into the mundane. nice touches. And a namesake to be investigated by the end.

Oh my a boating accident despite all the possible car collisions that nearly happened. And I loved the comment about the look that could have turned him into a pillar of salt. Glad they got to have some food at last!

This is a very good post. I felt like I was riding on the boat with them. I even enjoyed the melted eclairs. LOL Once again, you did a good job writing. I like the pace of their relationship. I don't like them being rushed.

In this chapter we see something of a distraction in Helen's mind, which is a bit mysterious; and something of Charles' temper, which is a bit surprising. It seems to come out of nowhere on that boat ride. Then at the end, we get this teaser about MS. Gaudin's possibly being mentally ill. So a lot going on here. My advice is, keep it focused. The dialogue is Ok, we get some of the personality of these characters in it, their sense of humor, their umbrage at remarks they don't like. We'll see where this goes next. estory

This is such a good story. I am out of six stars and this chapter is so deserving. As I said before, I really like the interplay between your characters. And I like the amusing tidbits that you throw in, like a Fiat named Fifi. And I particularly love the adage "I have had an ample sufficiency and any more would be a redundancy." I intend to use those clever words. If I can remember it right.

Tony, this is an intriguing read. I'm hooked and the nautical term clarifications were nice to have even if I am married to a navy signalman, retired! I will go back and look for the first chapters in your portfolio. Interesting book!

I had thought of that connection for Helen, but thought it a bit far-fetched! I shall have to tie her in with the Gaudin link somehow though! That was one of my own grandfather's favorite sayings, along with his description of small things being 'no bigger than a bee's gaiter button'! Spats, in American parlance! Best wishes, Tony

We say that, too. Also I learned to call suspenders galluses when I was very young. I grew up with grandmother and great-aunts along with my parents. Oh, and weskit for vest.
