Your powers of description are excellent, John. With this stanza I could picture being there:
As if it were a spiritual guide,
a deep soul-feeling connection
draws me to this solo obelisk.
With a sudden knowing,
I sense a personal dawning.
This is a great piece.

A metaphorical tour de force. I have a treasured bookmark my dad gave me decades ago. It's a quote from "George Eliot:
"It is never too late to be what you might have been."
(These days there is some disagreement that it should be attributed to her, but I digress...)
The strength of your verse lies in your "word-smithing" and I find myself doubling back to savor each line.
Six worthy and here I am, On Tuesday no less, without another until next Sunday!
Bravo.

Comment from Jim Wile
This is a melancholic, but in the end, hopeful poem about a lost young man with doubts about the hardships in his life and his loneliness as he looks out over a mountain range. Then he spots a single outcropping that somehow gives him hope that there is time to turn his life around.
The imagery you present is marvelous in setting the mood of the poem, which is very well-written. Jim

-Good artwork to write about.
-I enjoyed reading your poem
with vivid images describing
what you see and feel from this view.
-Effective nature imagery with the mist
and "outcroppings
rock solid, steel gray."
-I like the conclusions you draw
in the final two stanzas.
-Well done!

Thanks, Jim! You had a very good poem and deserved the review.
Comment from Paul McFarland
Jim, you have hooked the first and last stanzas together very nicely with metaphors of your life's journey. For me, this poem cries out for rhyme.

Paul thank you for your input.

This could be taken one of two ways. You could be comparing the phases and passages of life to the craggy, uphill battle of mountain climbing. Or it could be compared to actual mountain climbing. Seeing the view as it changes while climbing. Either way, this was a stirring poem. Great imagery. Gretchen

Gretchen yes it could, but rather is a intended as a stirring metaphor about a persons trek through life?s challenges.

nailed the poem's picture prompt.
liked the last stanza the best .
As if it were a spiritual guide,
a deep soul-feeling connection
draws me to this solo obelisk.
With a sudden knowing,
I sense a personal dawning.

This is a beautifully written poem about having faith and a positive outlook on life. You never know when your perspective will change, it's best to realize it's never too late.
