I put this in the politics section because I noticed the rather stark gender disparity in author rankings. Does anyone understand how author ratings actually work? Let's say a top-ranked poetry author has a poetry ranking of 5.5. Yet as I go through said author's portfolio, it becomes obvious that fewer than half of the ratings for that author are sixes. Yet it would seem this would be necessary -- an equal number of fives and sixes -- for an author to be rated 5.5. So what is actually going on with the rankings, and how is it that only women are represented in the top 15 poetry ranking spots this year? Are we males just too good at pissing people off to attract as many good reviews at the ladies, or is it our breath? It could also be that women are just innately better at poetry than men.
Apart from my crushed and bloody ego, other reason I care is that I heard somewhere that the top ranked writers get some sort of award (cash?) at the end of the year.
