RE: Elon Musk-Freedom of Speech
Craig, with respect, you did use the word "accolade" which clearly suggests some sort of praise.

All time do is put forward someone who has had the most influence for better or for worse

Harambe it seems you posted screeds of definition and example without actually reading (or understanding) them. It is clear than an ad hominem attack refers to an attack on someone involved in an argument. Craig criticised Hitler and Musk. That is NOT ad hominem. He didn't attack YOU which would have been.

Disagreeing with your point of view, your logic, your opinion even, is not ad hominem. Attacking you for being a racist or an imbecile or questioning your integrity or your intelligence could be classed as an ad hominem attack. I don't see Craig doing that here although I might have missed something.

On the other hand, I see plenty of ad hominem attacks on other threads and surprisingly you haven't called out any of them

Before you say it, I confess that I have used that kind of attack as well - on other threads where the participants ignore the usual norms of civilised debates and seem totally unable to grasp logic.

Emma, I think you are still wrong. You focus on how Twitter currently operates. Musk has pledged to make fundamental changes and one of the basic ones is that it will now be a private company with him at the head - yes, even in international offices. He will push through his ideas.

Linda, why don't your truth-loving friends simply use Trump's Truth Social (or Troth Sensual) as he tried to call it yesterday?

Have a lovely day, everyone.

Oh, one more point...

Trump was banned not for the years of idiotic and provocative comments he had made. He was banned in the immediate aftermath of Jan 6 because Twitter did not want to be held responsible for his criminal actions and were trying to prevent the possibility of further violence.

I'm kind of assuming that most reasonable people believe that planning and drumming up support for crimes and violence is not an acceptable form of free speech.

RE: Elon Musk-Freedom of Speech
it will be good to have a couple
social media sites that post the truth...

and Elon Musk is determined to get the truth
out there...uncensored...

not something the left wanted to see happen...
they have been running the country on lies...
and fear..

now maybe they get the truth out there about
Jan 6th...that's why they kicked President Trump off Twitter...
he tried to tell the truth....and then pelosi hid the videos
showing blm and antifa destroying the White House...

Well, we'll see, Steve. I don't think any ordinary user will spot any difference at all. Let's face it, we only know it's changed hands because of who it is. And I still maintain social media isn't like the press/television. Doesn't matter who is running it, the content you see will depend on who you follow.

Musk could muck about with a winning formula with billions of users. I really doubt he actually will.

Give it 6 months and we'll see.

I think it might be a good thing. Getting rid of all the bots and unauthenticated users will be a big plus. Now is the time to engage productive debates without the vicious personal attacks.

My first thought was, this takeover by Musk would've irritated Trump immensely. Can you imagine if Trump actually was the successful business man he claims to be, he would easily have a net worth, at least three times that of Musk. Which would've meant that when Dorsey banned Trump because of policy regarding violence, Trump could have initiated a hostile takeover of Twitter.

But no, Trump didn't have the cash or the ability to obtain loans. If Trump rejoins Twitter, Musk owns him to state it crudely. And Musk, as a pretty well genuine self-made multi-billionaire, and his success with Tesla and SpaceX will make him an excellent hands-on manager. He'll figure out the small, but expansive reach of Twitter, within a month is my estimate, and he will make efforts to fix it to his liking.

Hopefully he doesn't get bored when he figures it out. But the media landscape has shifted, and that is a good thing, I think.

But, Gloria, he won't do that. Yes, I am basing this on how Twitter works now, but it's how multi user media platforms like Twitter will always work, because they are primarily user-led.

But they aren't free-for-alls and that is primarily because we've learnt about the dangers. Kids being groomed, etc.

Over the years, as technology has developed, individuals have much more control over their social media content than they think they do.

The fact that you all seem to see the owner of Twitter as some sort of trad. Media mogul like Rupert Murdoch explains why this is.

If you know how to use it, Musk doesn't own Twitter. You do. I don't bother with it now but I used to beta test disability access software on it. Because I was testing, I did things I wouldn't normally bother with, like going into privacy settings in depth, etc.

YOU can manage YOUR content. This isn't a newspaper or a TV channel where the remote is stuck and you can't change it.

It won't make any difference! It really won't. A few less people might be banned at the start, maybe. But in reality, all that needs to happen is we need to stop believing the lie that the person who makes money off the advertising 'owns' Twitter.

The users own it. Yes, you can get banned, but only if you don't know how to use it. All you have to do is change the language you use. Right wingers, left wingers, BLM, gay, straight, all can use it. And all can control what they see and what they say.

All trump had to do was modify his verbiage. If he'd been bright enough to couch his violent rhetoric in more subtle terms, he would have had no problem. He wasn't banned because the owner was a left wing nutter, he broke site rules spectacularly and was kicked off as anyone else would be. Isn't that the ultimate. Freedom? Knowing the rules, such as they are, apply to everyone, no matter what station?

Regardless, Twitter still works, and will still work in the same way it does now. Learn how to use it, and you will own it. Or don't bother with it at all.

RE: Elon Musk-Freedom of Speech
Since I've never twittered or tweetled, I vote for option B. Never Tik-Tocked either (I refuse to omit the C, it sounds druggie), and I only Facebook under sufferance. Hell, I grew up in the days when research meant a trip to the library, and if you weren't at home, you didn't have a phone -- and somehow, we survived!

RE: Elon Musk-Freedom of Speech
when conservatives were being kicked off of
Twitter for telling the truth...the lefties
were in their glory...

and now that the truth will prevail...and freedom
of speech will expose their lies...they can't handle it...
LOL...their going into meltdown mode over freedom of speech...
who does that!!...demos/lefties...evil people...

what is it with the demos...they accuse Republicans
of fraudulent crimes they insist on doing...

much like Russia-Russia-Russia...they lied about it being
President Trump colluding with them for over 3 years...and all the time
it was biden and his son sleeping with Russia...along with the cult...
and China as well...

demos are dropping off...and Republicans are piling on Twitter...
as Musk said...a change is gonna come...many people who were thrown off
Twitter...have already been reinstated...

RE: Elon Musk-Freedom of Speech
hard to understand...why demos/lefties are so
upset Musk is turning over Twitter to a
freedom of speech social media site...

they don't have to go on there...even watch it...
cnn, msnbc, cbs, and etc...are still offering
the same censored videos they have always had...
so what's their problems...

look on the bright side...the demos/lefties don't have to
watch the longer version of the same video that will be on
Musk's social media site...
they can still watch their favorite censored videos...on their favorite
fake news media sites...cnn, msnbc, cbs, etc...

all Elon Musk is doing is giving people the choice to see truth...
or chopped up lies...it's unbelievable how some people would rather
watch censored news...and know it is...than to face the truth...

you better believe the lefties are going after revenge...it's what they do...
look how they went after President Trump...and couldn't find anything...

RE: Elon Musk-Freedom of Speech
I am not remotely upset about it. I don't use it. If I did it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference. I don't even know who owned it before and I doubt you do without looking it up.
