RE: Well, It Has Finally Happened!

Rather than saying that war is big money, I would say that trade security is big money. If this sounds like a semantic distinction, consider in the last 70 years how many weapons got destroyed in war. Wars are like insurance payouts in between all the periods that you're quietly making your payments with no events. And war is the arena for testing out, rescaling, replacing, and innovating on the tools (weapons) that are used to secure trade. The prize of war is who gets to profit from trade, by controlling production resources and routes.

For the US to remain the central hub of the trade empire, we have to engage in conflicts in order to keep our tools sharp. If we did not, we'd be like China's military is now: untested and untrustworthy. Once China starts having more kids, they will be less afraid to test out their weapons. That might take a few decades though.

Part of trade (pretty sure Scarbrems and I agree on this) is allied weapons platforms, like the F-35. Weapons are a shared currency. They also are not a separate category of goods, as the technological crossover from weapons to commerce is a grey area, and always has been: weapons innovation yields commercial breakthrough.

Very interesting, Simian, excellent points well made.

The economic politics of war are a fascinating subject.

RE: Well, It Has Finally Happened!
Does Trump really have to let Elon Musk in on his international calls with foreign leaders?
Next, he'll be randomly dropping in at the White House to play video games with Trump.
And what does Musk know about the 'economic hardships' of scaling down government expenditure?

Oh yes, it's a great idea to deport all illegals with their legal spouses and legal kids born here--ahem!

Global warming? Climate change? What are those? Myths!
Drill, baby, drill! (Ahem!(

Russia has just mobilized 50,000 more troops into Ukraine (after heartily congratulating Trump), backed by another 10,000 from North-Korea.
And China's brandishing its newest fighter jet--to emphasize that Taiwan is solely its jurisdiction and prerogative.

Can y'all taste the global peace and security of the next 4 years? Ahhh, refreshing!

Au contraire, lance, it's only the beginning--the dreaded beginning of what many fear will be another awful administration!

RE: Well, It Has Finally Happened!
What??? What kind of sick world are we living in where Biden can have the decency to invite and welcome Trump to the White House, after the election, congratulate him on his win and declare he'll do his utmost to ensure a peaceful and smooth transfer of power/administration. Oh, and he took and answered many detailed questions from Trump, freely/willingly giving his advice on a variety of issues.
I mean, how truly warped can Biden be?!
Of course, Trump was sane, courteous and noble enough to shun Biden after he lost the last election four years ago, refusing to extend a congratulatory invite to the White House. Such class!

Trump has picked a literal ax-flinging nut-job for secretary of defense. (Hide all red buttons in un-openable suitcases, in bottomless abysses, at the farthest depths of the oceans!)

Trump's proposed new department of government efficiency (may it never see the light of day!), designed to reduce the size of the federal government and cut down on its spending by a third of current budget, will--no kidding, get this--be 'co-headed' by 'two' sycophant appointees--Elon Musk and Rami-kiss-Trump's butt-shwammi (or whatever his unpronounceably long name is)--who will undoubtedly both be receiving commensurate salaries for their positions as they lay off one-third of government employees.
Uh, obviously no hypocrisy here. Do as I say, not as I do.

And then--oh boy!-Matt Gaetz, under several investigations by the department of justice and senate ethics committee, including sexual misconduct with underaged girls, is boldly/publicly/shamelessly picked by Trump to become the nation's next chief prosecutor/attorney general.
Way to go with your nominations, King Trump. What foresight and judgment.

And he hasn't even been sworn in yet...*Gulp!*
Stay tuned and strap in, folks! ...

RE: Well, It Has Finally Happened!
Ah, but, Biden is smiling there.
Is there some hidden message in that?

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for secretary of health...WT@??!!!
Back to the pre-vaccine 'paradise' of the stone age.
Who needs flouride when we can get decaying/rotten teeth for free?
Could that worm have laid eggs in his ear?
And has he washed his hands after that dead bear fiasco in Central Park?
Medicaid, medicare, who really needs those?
AMERICANS: Oh, Doctor, we feel so good today!
RFKjr.: Ahh, well, we'll soon fix that...

Trump could have easily made MUCH BETTER appointments, but seems to be smirking wryly at Congress, daring them to bite him on his obviously controversial picks.
And it's not even January yet...

RE: Well, It Has Finally Happened!
Brilliant move -- employ an anti-vaxxer as head of Health Services. As far as I know, that's a first for any country, in a country that achieves so many astounding firsts.

Actually, I view it as a mixed bag. I'm not averse to seeing giant pharmaceutical companies that rip off consumers watch their stocks nose-dive; but things might not look so crash hot when the next pandemic hits.

RE: Well, It Has Finally Happened!

CD, that is a very interesting point. Of course, it will depend a lot on what the next pandemic is. Covid mainly killed people who were overweight, had diabetes and pulmonary respiratory conditions, most of which is preventable with proper nutrition and exercise. RFK is about the most fit looking guy you will see at age 70. The better shape Americans can get themselves in, the more resistant they will be to the next pandemic, with or without vaccines. I think that is the general idea. Substance abuse and obesity has reduced American lifespans more than any diseases in the last century. We'll see if RFK's personal fitness translates into the ability to effectively influence others and make useful changes that are scalable.
