RE: Elon Musk-Freedom of Speech
Craig, I am happy to accept that there was a man called Jesus who was born about this time and that he became a preacher who gathered a band of followers around him and that his preaching inspired what we now call Christianity.

There is at least as much evidence for his existence as there is for many other historical figures. One interesting thing is that there doesn't seem to be anything written by him. Illiterate? Maybe?

RE: Elon Musk-Freedom of Speech
I'm not happy to accept the existence of the man as fact, Steve. What little evidence there is, is highly questionable. The most popular comparison is Socrates, who lived a few centuries earlier, and there is certainly more evidence for him being a real person, even though he, too, left no writing.

It makes no difference to me whether there was a teacher called Jesus or not, I just don't think the evidence is particularly strong, and I have studied it. I wouldn't be astonished if someone actually found some tangible proof (other, of course, than the fact that no one has yet done so).

I objected to Harambe's "plenty of evidence" claim, because it's easy to say such a thing while offering no compelling reason to believe it. If he, or anyone else, wishes to present the alleged evidence, I'm up for that discussion, in the appropriate thread, of course.

RE: Elon Musk-Freedom of Speech
Like you the existence of jesus the man doesn't mean much to me one way or the other.

Apart from the Gospels which basically all agree that he existed, although none of the writers had first-hand knowledge, there is also the respected Roman historian Tacitus - also writing well after the crucifixion (if there was one), but more scholarly and less biased than Matthew and co.

Tacitus thought he was writing about a real person and a real event. On the balance of probabilities, including the emergence of the new religion (which is confirmed by many Roman and other sources) I would say there was a Jesus...

You can't find proof of his existence, but neither can you find proof of his non-existence and if you try to explain how a religion sprang up without a leader you would merely be speculating...

Let's get back to reality. Trump is a criminal and he and his enablers should go to jail pour encourager les autres.

RE: Elon Musk-Freedom of Speech
There's not even agreement on your first point. Some scholars claim two of the gospel writers were disciples of Jesus. Others say none of them were, or even knew him.

As for Tacitus, Josephus and Pliny, Tacitus on face value has the best claim, but it's not convincing.

It's entirely possible that people could invent a religion and a leader to go along with it. It's also possible it's all a big misunderstanding. Then again, it's possible some such man existed. I don't see good evidence for any of those scenarios, so I reserve judgement.

In any case, as I said, not really the right forum thread for it.

The one thing on which there can be no doubt is that there is a devil. He has a mean mouth, an inflated ego and an incredibly bad hairdo.

Possible doesn't mean likely. Sadly it is only 'possible' that Trump could go to jail.

Reconciled, when your enemies disagree with each other, let them. Otherwise they will get back to agreeing on what they hate the most: you. Ha.

RE: Elon Musk-Freedom of Speech
There is no pretense...
He wants every soul to confess all is vanity but God...willingly. That is all I've done, that I'm aware of. However as I've said...His Word is alive and never returns void.
I dont hate them chicken...I hate what they do...get off on. Like repeatedly denying the existence of the Savior of the world.
Or repeatedly denying His divinity.
You can see they do it intentionally, because they enjoy it, it brings them great satisfaction.
Do I wish them dead...no. I pray someday they grow up and crucify the skin they live in.
They dont hate me either...they hate what i believe in...Him. His principles, placement in our lives.
And i...what and who rules they're motives, desires, and intentions.
It's probably hard for you see clearly in that suit.
