I should dismiss that whispered voice
that tells me I am old.
I should ignore that warming stove,
except my feet are cold.
Whenever I awake with dawn
and cannot reclaim sleep,
I resolutely shut my mind
to aging, it will keep.
I do not give a fig about
the things I did with ease,
that seem to take me twice as long
and sends pain through my knees.
At times my mind goes wandering
on reminiscent shores,
I gaily wade those waters til...
I'm wakened by my snores.
Continually, I shove aside
the challenges that rage,
Instead, I savor all the times
they tell me ~ "act your age!" ;)
