Another time
Another path
The one I'd almost taken
The life I have
Would not have been
Had I pursued "forsaken"
Down and out
In dark despair
I sobbed as down I sank
Into a world of cold and ice
A bottle filled I drank
And if it wasn't quite enough
The world inside me shifted
And dazed and stoned
Midst drug-thrust high
Into deep dream I drifted
And in this dream
I met a man who seemed
As if he knew
He spoke that he himself did know
What I was going through
He talked about the trials of man
The pain, the grief, the strife
The pitfalls, risks, the jeopardies
That travel through one’s life
And as he spoke in honesty
We hung our heads and wept
From troubled pang and agony
Out from my anguish stepped
And looking up he guided me
To see beyond the crust
And gently open up my soul
In faith, to hope and trust
“Accept the things you cannot change
Let yester’s fade away
Use courage, strength and fortitude
To guide you through each day”
“Be hopeful for the things to come
With trust you can achieve
Conviction and self-confidence
In you, yourself, believe”
Then suddenly I found myself
Enrapt in peace and calm
And from a shadow beamed a light
From whence I know not from
And lifted up in buoyancy
I knew that I’d been saved
And found I’d been re-born again
My road in life re-paved
And though it won’t be trouble-free
Some struggles I’ll still face
But patience, courage, love and hope
Are things I shall embrace
I’ll look upon the beauty of
All blessings, great and small
And realize that life is yet
God’s greatest gift of all
