Joe was a Marine for nearly twenty years,
with two months left until he could retire.
While on patrol in the jungles of Vietnam,
he was shot in the chest by a sniper's fire.
His wife kept the uniform he was wearing,
with the bullet hole that stopped his heart.
They had loved each other since high school,
but now, Mary's world would soon fall apart.
Her dreams about their future had vanished,
without her soulmate she started to lose hope.
Then awful thoughts began to invade her mind
and from that moment on she could not cope.
The pain and suffering became unbearable,
no more sleepless nights in her lonely bed.
Mary prayed and asked God for forgiveness,
then she held Joe's pistol against her head.

Author Notes
Sometimes it's not only the soldiers that pay the ultimate price during the horrible events of war. Their wives are left behind when the love of their life is killed in a foreign land. Some simply cannot deal with facing the future without the one they said their sacred vows with and decide to end it all.
