A Duodecatain poem
On the Hunt by damommy

Two lonely crows high in a tree
and blanket snow is all they see.
The countryside is bleak and bare,
no chance of food found anywhere.
Few people stirred
to start their day.
They tend their herd,
set chores in play
so they can go indoors to stay,
and not another sound is heard.

Black, shiny eyes search desperately
for any berry, seed, or pea.
The freezing cold and bitter air
give nothing back but deep despair.
The ground’s interred
and tucked away.
But something spurred
through ice display!
A pod of seed to save the day,
a take-home feast for baby bird.

When all else fails,
fate tips the scales.

Author Notes
This is practice poem to for improvement.
A duodecatain is a format created by our good friend and fellow FanStorian, Treischel.
A decatain is a stanza of ten lines. This format has two, thus the "duo" designation. Here are the rules:
1. The meter is either iambic or trochaic, or a mixture of both.
2. There are two 10 line stanzas followed by a rhyming couplet.
3. The lines are a mix of tetrameter and dimeter with the following syllable counts:
8888444488 8888444488 44
4. The rhyme scheme in each decatain is:
aabbcdcddc (but the rhymes can vary between the stanzas).
5. The couplet rhyme is ee.
