Then He Helped To Get Me Through

She sat aboard an evening train
Tears rolling down her face
Bad memories flooding through her brain
Of a never could be forgotten place
Her eyes they turned to Heaven
Not even God could erase
Then He helped to get me through
And continue on the case

The memories of that tormented scene
When her Daddy found her in the night
Staked out naked on the ground
'Twas a wild and confronting sight
Her Daddy he came running
Ready to take on any fight
Then He helped to get me through
And rediscover the road to right

I know Thou shall not kill
Learned that when I was small
So I reached out to Heaven
Promised I would give my all
Then pleaded for forgiveness
And, He listened to my call
Then He helped to get me through
And to stand up after every fall

Today she rides into a sunset
Penning a letter of goodbye
To the father she so dearly loved
She was too damn broke to cry
Her dad now lay at peace with God
She pleaded Lord please let me die
Then He helped to get me through
Gave me the strength for one more try

Regret still travels with her
On her life's long and lonely ride
She never did fulfill her dream
Of becoming Eddie's bride
She still recalls the evidence
And how she broke down and cried
Then He helped to get me through
By always being right by my side

I know Thou shall not kill
Learned that when I was small
So I reached out to Heaven
Promised I would give my all
Then pleaded for forgiveness
And, He listened to my call
Then He helped me to get through
Every time I'd come close to a fall

Author Notes
This is the story of my lead character in my first ever novel.
I've slightly changed the refrain
