When you were born I saw many things…
I saw the me that lived within your eyes.
I saw the me that used to be, fading away.
I saw the me that you needed me to be, standing tall.
When you first smiled and laughed at me…
I saw the boy whose boundless joy would fill a room.
I saw the boy whose smile would dazzle young girls.
I saw the boy whose laugh would bind lasting friends.
When you left home and went off to college so much a man…
I saw the home that would be smaller without you.
I saw the home that would know silent days.
I saw the home that your mother and I will sell because it cost us a fortune,
And then I saw us moving to Hawaii and walking around naked in our new condo;
Oh, you can visit, but call first... you know, the whole naked thing, and
I saw us refusing to babysit grandkids for free…

Author Notes
We're still saving on the Hawaii condo, and no, that's not him.
