Waking up to birdsong has me smiling every time,
And listening to music, different kinds,
Talks with friends and family, though much better face to face,
Phone calls from them, often, are just fine.
Being outside has more meaning than it used to have
Before Corona virus came along;
Breathing air without the blasted mask is wonderful,
It makes me feel like bursting into song!
It makes me happy when a recipe I try is good
And my company lets me know with umms and ahhs;
It also makes me happy to be writing everyday
Because it keeps me thinking, and… because.
Bored is a condition that does not apply to me
Most times I am writing, which I love,
And drawing with my pencils, and I like to read at night,
Decorating, planting—things I never tire of.
There’s not much going on these days that fosters happiness
I ache at what this country’s going through
I hope good people will prevail, and overcome the bad
And each day will be one looked forward to.
But I am happy, grateful, too, to wake up every day
To birdsong and the antics of the squirrels
And something I look forward to sometime each night if they
Are able—a phone call from both my girls!
