A Pantoum
The Warning by tfawcus

Kneel gently on his bones tonight,
for pity’s sake.
                           The worms need time.

His mortal soul has taken flight
for men could not forgive his crime.

For pity’s sake! The worms need time
to suck his bones, bereft of air
for men could not forgive his crime.

I cannot fathom how they dare
to suck his bones. Bereft of air,
Floyd
pled and pled... again he pled.

I cannot fathom how they dare!

We'll wreak revenge by wielding dread
(Floyd pled, and pled... again he pled).

His mortal soul has taken flight...
We'll wreak revenge by wielding dread.

Kneel gently on his bones tonight.

Author Notes
The Pantoum is normally composed of a series of quatrains; the second and fourth lines of each stanza are repeated as the first and third lines of the next stanza.
I have kept the repetitions but arranged the lines differently.

This poem was inspired by the death of George Floyd. May his soul rest in peace.
