The Lookout by Willie P. Smith

A few years ago, while participating in an old cowboy gathering. One of the cowboys told this yarn. While riding his horse in an area known to have once been occupied by native Americans, a cowboy spotted an Indian on a horse following him. The Indian was on a hill a few yards away,to the cowboy's right. He maintained that distance, while keeping an eye on the cowboy, for about two miles. The Indian was described wearing nothing but a loin cloth. He was carrying a spear in his right hand and various parts of his body bore war paint. He also said he had a single feather on his head. He kept up with the cowboy during the two miles. It appeared he was just
curious about the cowboy's intentions. When they came to the two miles, the Indian reportedly
disappeared. The cowboy said he didn't know where he went, but he had his eyes on him from
the beginning. It was also reported that other cowboys have spotted the Indian while riding in the same remote location. Was the Indian trying to protect that portion of land? Why was he wearing war paint? Where did he disappear to? It is very unlikely someone dressed like an Indian would be hiding and waiting in such a remote location. This was the second time I heard this story, from two different cowboys. FACT OR FICTION, YOU DECIDE.

Author Notes
Again, these are stories I have recorded by listening to various persons. I do not claim any of them to be true, but the witnesses do. I have not been a witness in any of them. I just write them for your possible enjoyment. Believing or not believing is up top you.
