: The Earlybirds by sunnilicious

Cheery chirps at the break of dawn
Pulls me out of bed and I yawn.
I listen intently and count,
I count the chirps of flighty clowns;
Four canyon wrens and a songbird.
They chirp, peck and walk with a stir
Around that bent old lemon tree
As the light forces them carefree.

The songbird flies up ---
To inspect lemons and poop;
A new song is born.

Four canyon wren birds ---
A small flock in unison
flaps to the mountain.

A bright day begins,
But I must stay home alone;
Pandemic panic.

Author Notes
March 31st 2020 - The NaPoWriMo prompt is to write about a favorite bird. I wrote about birds in my neighbors' lemon tree. I tried to take a picture with the birds in them, but they rather play peek-a-boo at the sight of people. I wasn't able to identify the songbird. It looked like a robin but with a bright blue breast.
